I have read that back pressure caused by loaders can damage the hydraulic pumps on tractors. Will the pressure relief on my Prince loader valve prevent this (See attachment)? Or should I add another relief between the loader valve and the pump?

Thanks for any info.

Yes, if set properly, that is what it is there for. When pressure on the inlet port exceeds the relief valve set point, The valve will pass fluid from the inlet port to the outlet port just as if both spool valves were in neutral on a open center valve assembly. As long as the relief valve GPM specs are larger than your pumps GPM capacity you should be fine and your pump should never see larger pressure than the relief valve's setpoint. Well at least not from your loader:)

As RonMar said, the relief will pass fluid from the inlet to the outlet which will be connected to the tank reservoir not back into the main flow (assuming the valve has power beyond capabilities).
