I have an older IH tractor. During backhoe installation, with no manuals, we accidentally routed the hydraulic lines incorrectly. I believe I deadheaded the pump-- which blew it up.

Is there a way to add some sort of relief valve so this couldn't ruin a second pump if the same thing repeated? We will obviously be more careful next time. But when working with no manuals there is sometimes guesswork involved. It would be nice to add some sort of fail-safe.

I had about same issue to happen to me on a boom mower. For mine it was easy to install a relief valve in the pressure hose from the pump to the mower which was the only item powered by that pump. Just installed the valve into the pressure line on the correct ports and the return hose to the other hoses. Think the directions came with the relief valve.
