I have a Devilbiss Excel pressure washer, 2400 PSI with Honda 5HP engine. Purchased from Home Depot about 4 years ago. Today I noticed that when I move the throttle lever to the full throttle setting, it does not actually run the engine at full throttle. If I pull on the throttle cable it revs up the engine quite a bit more. So much more that I was a bit alarmed and thought I might be overrunning the engine or the pump, so I only did it for a couple of seconds.
I don't use this pressure washer often to know if this is the way it's always operated. My question is, is the pressure washer intentionally under throttled in order to properly work with (not damage) the pump? If so, how do you tell what the proper amount of throttle is? Throttle cables have a habit of loosening up over the years, so at some point an adjustment will be needed..
