Preventing mold in cabin refrigerator

Friend operates a public storage facility and fridges propped open don't show mold even after 12 - 18 months.
Now that is in unheated metal storage buildings.

If you have a crawl space, do you have a vapor barrier installed covering the soil? Might help.

If you have access to 100 lb bags of flaked calcium chloride, open a bag and leave that in the cabin. Take enough out to fill a 2 lb margarine tub, punch some holes in the top and put that in the fridge. A 1 lb tub filled should fit in the freezer compartment. Don't forget to punch some holes in the top of the little container, too.
How it works is the calcium chloride will attract the dampness and draw it into the tubs. Don't forget to leave the fridge door open.

If anyone else is interested, I got rid of the mold in the refrigerator with chlorine bleach. First, I took all the food out of the fridge and off the shelves. Then you need to defrost the fridge to 0 degrees and only then turn it off. Then you fill the frames from the refrigerator with the bathwater and add chlorine bleach to it. The fridge also needs to be wiped several times and then wiped well with a dry cloth. In half an hour, it will be possible to fill it with food again. Or you can call mold remediation san diego, and they'll help you to fix it.

This is evidently a frost free refrigerator. They build up ice on the coils behind the panels until the heater comes on and defrost them. If you turn the refrigerator off before the defroster has melted all the ice, water will drip down from the coils for up to 24 hours even with the doors open.

You have to turn the refrigerator off hours before you leave and place a fan in it for several hours with the doors open. This will insure that all the ice behind the panels defrosts and goes down the drain (provided the drain is not stopped up) into the pan under the refrigerator. Dry out the inside walls of the refrigerator well before you leave. Then leave the doors open with a pan of baking soda inside.

To keep humidity down in the cabin, empty any standing containers of water, cover the drain in your sink and tub and close the toilet lid. Make sure the washing machine has no water in it. Close curtains on the windows. Then adding calcium chloride to your cabin will help.

Bleach; will kill the mold and vinegar will also kill
mold. I would wash the inside with vinegar to kill
and possible growth of mold then dry and leave door
open
