Price Check LS XR4040

I'm glad I found this. I have been shopping compacts for a few weeks now for our property in mid michigan. I have my eyes set in the XR4040 as well. I was quoted $21,950 for the SST. That price was at 3.49% for 84 months. That's out of the Whittmore lake dealer. One thing I have yet to figure out is, which trans to go with. I don't understand the pros/cons of the two.

Also, Bart, looks like you live close. How do you like your XR4040? Why did you opt to go with it? I'm trying to decide why I shouldn't buy the NH or Case. I'll take any info good or bad on LS and this model specifically. Recommendations?

Boomer, here's a simple explanation for which transmission to choose. If you are going to be plowing fields all day or perhaps mowing a big field all day or doing other tasks that don't require a lot of direction changes (i.e., tasks where you pick a gear, throttle up, release the clutch and go in that gear most of the time), then a shuttle shift transmission will serve you well. The shuttle shift transmission will probably put a little more power to the ground than the HST.

For all other work including loader work, an HST transmission is the way to go. It gives you instant direction changes without any clutching or changing of gears.

The only thing you'll have to adjust to with an HST transmission is to NOT think of it like a throttle pedal in an automobile. In a car or truck, if you want more power, you mash the throttle. On a HST transmission, mashing the pedal gives you more speed but less power. If you need more power, you let OFF the throttle. It will take you a few uses to get used to it, and then you'll never thing about it again.

I'd say price, quality (same caliber as those listed) and the extras that are standard on the LS.
Only negative I would say is the newish dealer network.

Yes, with the LS and some other machines with the traditional HST model. Some of the other brands actually offer a feature that ties pedal input to the throttle, so you can increase power and speed with the foot throttle.

This Massey is the first machine I've owned with that feature, but I love it and wouldn't want to go back now!

That was the one single feature that kept drawing me towards the Grand L series tractor when I was shopping. I eventually decided it wasn't worth the extra cost over the price of the Kioti, but I would absolutely LOVE to have that feature.
