As long as the plastic gear has been taken care off, then you are good to go....I dont want to sound doom & gloom but it would not hurt to ask directly about it...it effects that model Kawi and year...

I did not know that about the new Kawasakis. How many more have this plastic timing gear? We have a JD 320 which has the 18 horse liquid cooled V-Twin and it has been bullet proof. Almost 500 hours now and runs like new. Even if he did get the new one it would have a warranty if any problems arise.

Its been fixed by Kawasaki on the newer machines and no longer an issue..its the older models 18-20 hp models 2000-2002 or around those years...it just requires attention at around 300-500 hrs....It might have been only the air cooled engines...
I have to find info again, I didnt mean to cause an issue bringing it up. I figure its best before you buy that you know about it -

Hey, no issue. I did not know that about them so thanks for sharing. I always preach how good Kawasaki is so this was kind of a shock to hear such a thing.

If I recall , back about four or five years ago , Kawi used those gears in a few motorcycles. And I would bet that the guy that came up with that idea is no longer with the company. I bought a new CC 1529 earlier this spring. It's a '03 leftover with a 19 hp Kawi. The engine was the main reason I bought it. I had forgotten about those gears until I read your post. I would hope the gear disaster is HISTORY.
