A dealer offered a $9,000 price on a 2008 X728 70 hours and a 7 Iron deck. That price was after tax and delivery. I have been shopping a while and am thinking real hard on this one. What do you guys think?

To much money for a lawn mower.

I spent 3 hours on a 425 (older 2wd version) this morning with part of that mowing a steep dam face. Was thinking about upgading and if I did that would probably be the choice. Went and got the Kubota B2150(4wd) to finish. The 425 has just over 600 hours and is 10 years old. Very solid machine. Got rid of a Kubota zero turn after mowing with the 425.

It sounds high to me, but may be the going rate in your area. I bought a 09 X744 a few months ago for $10,400. JC

How can you say it's to much money for a lawn mower unless you have owned a X728 or it's equivalent. The last I knew, you own several Kubota's and are very happy with them which is fine. I can understand you checking on other brands but you seem to always have a negative opinion of other brand tractors. My first lawn tractor was a Montgomery Ward 12hp Squire with a 48" deck and dual wheels. Twenty years later, I bought a Ford YT16 which I owned for 1 year and it was nothing but problems. I alwaqys wanted a JD but could not aford one. I had a dealer drop off a JD318 to try aqnd iit had just rained. I mowed for 1/2 hour with no clumping and called him and bought the JD 318 with a 46" deck and it was a great lawn tractor. About 5 years later my dealer talked me into up grading to a JD 445 with a 54" deck. It cut my mowing time by 2/3rds. I was very happy with it. About 5 years after that, my dealer talked me into trading for a X595 with a 62C" deck. My main concern was that I loved my 445 and I was afraid that the X595 might not be as good but my dealer assured me I would ber happy. I traded and can not say enough good things about my X595. It cut my mowing time again and the diesel uses about 2/3rd's less in fuel. Every little thing that I thought could be a little better with my 445 was corrected on the X595. I don't believe you can buy a better lawn tractor even though the model numbers have changed. After saying that, I can't and won't comment on something concerning a Kubota since I have never owned one. I will say that you will not be disappointed if you buy a X728. I know there pricey but there is a reason and only people that own a JD no why.

Curt.

I think that is a fair price. 4 wheel drive, commercial quality tractor and the best mower deck in the industry. Compare that to any other 4WD commercial mower, you would have to look at the front-mowers. Plus you can add many more attachments and significantly increase the versatility of the tractor that you really can't do with any other commercial mower in that price range. That machine isn't even broken in yet. But there is always room for some negotiation. Bring LB with you if you decide to purchase.

Tilt steering, 7 iron deck, comfortable seat, lots of reasons to own
a X728 if your primary use is mowing. Not a bad price at all for that
considering if you take good care of it and will probably get at least
half your money back in 10-12 years.

LB, I know your about the FEL and all but some of these folks just
like to mow.:D:D
