price for new BH90 w/12\" bucket and street pads

I finally decided that I need a BH90. I got a rough ball park price of $7800 from a dealer last month but I would like some more info before going to the bargaining table in a couple of days. Heres what Im getting. BH90 with 12" bucket, reversable pads and hydraulic remotes. All installed on my 3130GST. I will be dropping it off and picking it up. Should I hold him to $7800 or can he do better?
Thanks, Ray

I'm not sure about the price. But a 12" bucket seems small for that size BH.

I have a 16" with my BL4690. This is a good size for it. If you are going to use it for trenching the 12" size will work. I'm Looking for a 10" to do trenching with.

But I would think for regular digging a 24" would be a good size on the BH90.

Re: price for new BH90 w/12\" bucket and street pads

RayH,

Like Ron, my first thought was a 12" bucket is pretty small.

I have 10" and 16" buckets for my BL4690, and sometimes I wish I had a 24" as well. The 10" is nice for some things, but if the soil [we have clay pretty much] is wet, or even damp, it can stick in the bucket which is not good. Probably less of an issue with the 12 inch though.

The 24" bucket was pretty expensive, at something like $700+ for my backhoe if I remember right.

If I could do it over, I might be happier with 12 & 24 inch buckets, rather than the 10 & 16 I have now. Getting off the backhoe to clear the 10" bucket with a bar gets old after a while. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Unless you have a very specific need for the narrower 12 inch bucket on the backhoe, and if you are going to get only one bucket, I would advise going with nothing less than 16" for general use. That is the bucket that is on mine most of the time. I do think the narrower bucket may rip roots out a little better when stumping though...your milage may vary.

Hope you don't mind this unsolicited advice! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I went with 12 and 24" buckets for my Woods 9000 hoe. Used the 12" for the sewer, water and conduits. Its' tight enough trying to glue 4" pipe or any pipe in a trench with a 12" bucket let alone a 10". Guess it depends on what you want to do with it.

Ray, I think your getting a fair price. I have the 16" bucket. The 12" will be fine if your only digging trenches. I think you will become frustrated with the size if your do other work. I think you made a good decision with the BH90. You will be very pleased with it's performance.

Ray

I agree with the others on bucket size. I use a 24" on my woods 1050 for general digging and a 12" for trenching and cutting roots and pulling rocks where I need the additional force.

Re: price for new BH90 w/12\" bucket and street pads

Ray, That sounds like about the same price I paid for my BH90 if your definition of "remotes" is the same as mine - which is - the remotes that you can attach T&T to. I went with the 16" bucket and have no street pads. If I could have had 2 buckets I would got the 12" and the 24" but the 16" seems to work good with digging mesquite and a 4" wider trench should pose no major problems. I am still amazed at the speed of the backhoe, you will enjoy it.

Re: price for new BH90 w/12\" bucket and street pads

Thanks for all the input.
By remotes I mean just the rear quick disconnects, not a whole aux valve. I dont know what a T&T is though?
The reason I am going with the 12" bucket is because I will be doing more trenching, destumping and flora planting than footer digging right now. I figured I could start with a smaller bucket and as needs arise, buy a larger bucket for the big stuff.
Does anyone with a BH90 know if the 3PH arms and stabilizers NEED to come completely off of the tractor to mount the BH? I havent actually seen one mounted in person but from pictures, it appears that you could take all the pins out (as opposed to unbolting the 3PH) and bungy or tie wrap the arms, links and stabilizers out of the way. I will probably be removing the BH at job sites, if I can avoid getting the tool box out, all the better.
Thanks, Ray

Re: price for new BH90 w/12\" bucket and street pads

Ray, you need to take the 3point off the tractor. It's a matter of 3 bolts per side. It's a pain to do, but only takes about 10-15 minutes. The backhoe takes about another 10 min or so to back up to, attach the hydraulic line and lower the hoe onto the subframe and pin it. The biggest pain is ensuring that you have the hoe perfectly lined up for the securing pins. The first time took me 45 minutes of making small adjustments with the boom, dipper and stabilizers. Now days it only takes about 10 min.
