Price for used rotary cutter (bush hog)

I will be buying a used 6' rotary cutter...looking for input on price...

What would you consider a fair price for a 6' "heavy duty" cutter in good to better than good condition, no rust, good gear box, good slip clutch, well maintained ? The cutter has mainly been stored inside with his tractor and does not appear to have been stored with wet grass on top of the deck...I'm gonna guess and say it's about 10-12 years old...and, I've forgotten the brand name, however it is VERY heavy !

Not having a picture of it, or the brand/model makes it a bit harder to judge. Is it truly a heavy duty mower? I have seen a couple people try to advertise the standard duty KingKutter mowers as heavy duty!! Just guessing maybe about $700-$900?? I am sure others will have a different opinion though.

A picture would help. Around here it seems like the used ones top out in price around $600 - $650, beat up ones that I wouldn't consider are around $350. Part of the reason is you can get a new King Kutter from TSC for $800. It isn't the heavy duty model but serves the purpose for most that aren't doing commercial cutting.

I had a Woods MD172 6' cutter purchased new in 2000. I had it listed on Craig's list (and here) for a while at $1200, then $1100 with no takers in January of this year. Ended up trading it in to the dealer on a new purchase. He gave me $1000 for it. I think if I had waited until spring, I could probably have gotten the $1200 I was asking for it. I believe the Woods 6' cutters goes for around $3000 new these days. I paid $1800 new I think back in 2000.

My chain guards went for 475.00 on my Landpride.

I bought a like new bush hog sq720 last night for $1000. It was stored inside and used once!

Very few HD units hit the market around here. Most HD machines are bought with a purpose. I would think the price would have a great deal to do with parts availability. I am thinking 1000-1500, but it is an older machine, so maybe less.

Ok, still having technical difficulties with posting pics, but it is a "Dragon Products" HD cutter manufactured in Beaumont, TX ingood to better than good, looks a bit older than I originally thought though...med to light grey in color with slip clutch...

Edit: this may be a 7' "Super Highway Special" If its 7' do y'all think my 4035 (33 hp @ PTO) will handle it, main use will be fairly heavy Bahia with some seasonal deer lease work....

I looked at that cutter. Looks pretty good. Galvanized with a 3" cutting capacity. It weighs in at about 1200lbs. That is a beast and will be all that your tractor wants. The rule of thumb is 5pto horsepower per foot. You are a little under and it is a HD machine. That is quite a bit of weight hanging off the back end. I don't know what to tell you. It will be the last one you ever have to buy, but it would be overkill for most of us.
