Thought I was going to buy blue. Had a problem with the dealer. Went to JD and drove a 3120. Like the way it felt. Curious though when letting off the pedal it feels that your slamming on the brakes. Is this normal?? Spent several hours reading all I could on this forum and the general concensus is to upgrade to the 3320 for the $1000 price increase. I have 5 acres. There will be alot of fel and box blade work. Price I am being quoted for 3320 with 300cx fel r4 tires and Cruise control kit is 19,785. Looking at other forum members posts this would seem high. Any thoughts?

Larry,

The best way to figure a good price is to go to the JD configurator and price the machine, tranny options, and FEL you want. The 12-15% off that price and you would have a really nice deal in my mind. More than this, you are getting a really good deal, less and you should probably keep shopping. I did not do the website before answering this, but I think you might could do a little better although that price does not seem too off to me. Second, the ehydro transmission has a programmable rollout which might have been set for short rollout, thus making the tractor seem to stop abruptly. One can simply reprogram one's rollout for a very smooth transition.

That set up with 72" bucket, 300CX, cruise and the larger R4s lists out at about $22,700 on the JD site.

I assume that you were on a e-hydro for your test drive. There is a feature called "MotionMatch" that allows you to adjust the deceleration rate to your liking. In time I managed to get used to the default setting but you can ease that slamming in the brakes feeling if you want. Ask the dealer about it and there is an optional switch for making the adjustment easier should you want to change it a lot (doubtful).
As for price, others are right on, do the on line configure/ price and see how the dealer offer compares. I was initially quoted 86% to 87% of list price depending on dealer. Once you are ready to sign an order, a little more can usually be had.
Go for the 3320 over the 3120.

The Motionmatch is set at a default that I found too abrubt. It's nice if you're doing a lot of loader work, quick stops and starts, but for day to day stuff when I'd hit a bump or whatever and my foot would come off the pedal a bit it would stop me too quickly. I'ts easy to adjust for a shorter or longer rollout.

I bought my 3720 cab and FEL for just over 15% off list. If that is dealer's first offer, you still have room for improvement, but areas will vary and so do dealers. One guy on TBN said he got 18% off list which is extremely good. State of MN contract price is 25% off list but I don't know what the dealer would get out of this arrangement.
The motion match on my JD is set at 5 and for me is about ideal. I believe 5 is the default setting.

Thanks for your input. When I asked the salesman about the abrupt stopping his reply was "that's the way they are". Because of your replies you may have saved a sale for JD. I was not going to buy it because of the way it stopped.
As I mentioned before it will be used for a lot of fel work, box blade. I also will be buying a rear bush hog. In the far future(2-3 years) I will need to add a rear deck finish mower. Are there any options or attachments I should include now??

Larry239,

I would consider the 7 Iron MMM, I too have 5 acres and do everything with this deck including pasture maintanence. Get the dealer to throw in Gator blades. That deck is a beast.

As to other options:
1. Get the rear tires filled. Over the past year there have been at least 100 posts and 200 opinions as to how to do this. I’ll just say that I had the dealer fill them with the beet juice product.
2. Have the rear wheels reversed. You don’t gain a lot with the R4’s but every bit helps.
3. For the FEL work, you need rear ballast. Either an implement or a ballast box.
4. Consider optional hydraulics: power behind and/or 3rd SCV valve. They aren’t too expensive and will be there in the future should you have a need.

Larry,
I just bought a 3320 equipped pretty similarly, and the dealer gave me the complete pricing breakdown. When I get home tonight, I'll post it for you.
