STVMAN,

When you look at out of state purchase on a tractor just to save a small amount of money, or to evade taxes (which will end in the near future I am told), you have to consider the fact of service (IE repair and warrenty work).

While an out of state dealer may be able to get you parts, they cannot provide warrenty work to you as Kubota Corperation will not pay travel time on warrenty's. If you go to a local dealer and then decide to undercut him to save salestax or a few hundred dollars on a deal then do you think he will be as willing to help you out as someone who bought from him? I would think not.

You have to consider service when purchasing a tractor from a distance. While internet dealers may be able to provide a bit better of a deal, they cannot provide you with the service your local shop probably could.

Dealers are becoming more and more singy about who they do service for because they have to protect themselves in this game that Carver and the others are trying to make so cut-throught.

Dealer : In my case if it had been a few hundred dollars ( as opposed to several thousand ) that would have been ok. Why is it so hard for dealers to understand, no one likes to be left in the dark. If a dealer makes a FAIR profit I believe both people in the transaction win. If you sell a tractor for 2000 dollars more than your competitors even an uninformed customer will find out eventually and then feel screwed.

Any dealer that I know of that sells off of invoice and shows the customer a reasonable markup will rarely if ever loose a sale.

I purchased a Honda Accord last year I went to 7 dealers before one very smart one showed me the invoice, told me how much he wanted for profit and SOLD me a car.

The dealer ship was there for 70 years selling both Chevy then Honda ( selling cars for sticker ) and the place never grew.

In the two years since this dealership was purchased ( from the old school owner ) the size of the dealership has doubled and I for one tell everyone I know to go there. A SATISFIED CUSTOMER IS YOUR BEST ADVERTISEMENT, enough said

I keep hearing this crap that a dealer won't service a tractor for warrenty work if he didn't sell the thing. Aren't tractor dealerships like car dealerships, as most money is made by the service dept. And would welcome all service work as that is there bread and butter. What if you get relocated and move a month after you get your new tractor? I think this service BS is just dealers crying sour grapes! As the jig is up on the price gouging that they have been doing for so long. I just saw an ad from the local dealer who does not even own a computer for his buss. Sale on the B2710 at $15500. Thats the sale price without loader or mower deck! I wouldn't buy from him at his high prices no matter how close he is to me. And yes I would buy from out of state to save the sales tax. Paying shipping of $500 is a lot cheaper than paying $1400 in sales tax. If your dealeer won't come around to the way the internet now runs the world, tell him at least he will get all your warrenty work.

Dealer: Another point Steve Carver I believe is a smart business man. I know all the local dealers in my area despise him for posting prices on this forum. He may make a smaller margin but has fifty fold their happy customers

If you go to a car dealer and he shows you the invoice and tells you he will make it up 500$, do you think he is making 500$ on the car? If you think this then you're way out there. As I was trying to make a point before, the invoice shows you nothing. The invoice does not show you their cost, or there profit. The car salesman's job is to get the most possible money from you that he can without you going elsewhere. Showing you the invoice has become a selling point but it is artifical, and has very little relavance to his markup. If you have a dealer that is making obsurd markups in your area then, yes, he will not get the sale, however what I am trying to get across is that if you go out of state to keep from salestax and/or a few hundred off the price tag a local dealer is not going to want to help you in the future.

As for warrenty work, there is not very much profit involved von. It is more a service to your costomer that purchased the tractor from you in the first place. Our shop is backed up 3-4 weeks and we're still getting more in all the time, so if you chose to buy from an out of state dealer to sale sales tax then we would put you behind those who chose to stay local. We try to give very fair prices and mark them down from list considerably, so salestax and a few hundred dollars off would be the main resoning to go out of state.

Because we are so backed up we have to put OUR costomers first and others have to fall in line. If you moved to our area recently and you plan to use us as your dealer in the future then you are our costomer, however if you come to us for a price and then go with the out of state, you are their customer.

Take a look at the post in this tread by "W-K in NC". You will find it was deleted showing that this post board only lets you see what they want you to!

"W-K in NC" was deleted for violation of "terms of service". How is Carver not infinging on them when he posts advertisements on the forums and the very first section of the terms of use dis-allows commercial use of the forums.

Dealer,

Here is a copy of the part of terms of use that I believe you are referring to:

"PERSONAL AND NON-COMMERCIAL USE LIMITATION
This Web site is for your personal and non-commercial use. You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, create derivative works from, transfer, or sell any information, software, products or services obtained from this Web site."

Notice the last sentence, "obtained from this Web site" it doesn't say that you can't post advertisements to this website.

Later in the terms it does say that you can't advertise without permission, therefore, I would think that those that advertise have permission to do so. I for one don't mind when Muhammad deletes messages, even if they were mine. Every board gets all sorts and I don't want inappropriate posts just hanging out there forever!

I have been active in reading this board and its previous version(s) for well over a year and have rarely seen posts deleted anyway.

Hopefully this information helps in some way.
