Price of Propane for the grill ???

/ Price of Propane for the grill ??? #21
If I go to the RV park next door and see "3 teeth Mary", it is $18.50 for 20 lbs--except Mary never has change and I always only have a $20, so it is $20 for 20 lbs.

All of the exchange places are $29-$40 around here.

The best price is TSC--$12.50 (I think), but there are also a 45 minute drive (each way).

You know what...after reading all the different rates I believe there is just so much profit in propane the retailers are able to see it for whatever the local market can bear...TSC must be using it as a lost leader and propane companies already have their markups...so the Convenience stores and other retailers are making the extra $$$$ /// I'm just guessing that is what is going on...:confused3:

I just called our tractor supply store....All this time I did not know they had Propane and I have been in there more times than I can count...Makes me sick...the (3) tanks I filled Sunday for $18.68 each would have cost me $10.73 each and I would have gotten 1.9 gallons for in each tank...The convenience store gave me 3 gallons...Tractor supply puts 4.9 gallons in each tank she said....Oh that irritates me...since those 3 tanks will last us until this time next year or longer...I should have asked here...should a , would a , could a ...

Yeah but...RV park you probably pay $5 for a tiny bundle of firewood (about $1,000/cord if you do the math) :)

In "ag" country I think the Coops bought a lot of LP futures last summer but there was really no corn to dry because of the drought (no corn to dry) or the cold temps set in (mother nature took care of it). A friend just got an LP price of $1.39 gal if that means anything. The small tank "exchange" price is still about $20 here. If you need it you need it and I prefer to eat grilled food 52 weeks/year. A large gas grill will eat it in a hurry though.

Well Bill, it was others on TBN that told me about tractor supplies prices...all the times I've been in there over the years and I had no Idea they sold propane or for that low price...

Believe me I will not ever do business with that convenience store again...I could see charging a little more...but double...? that is a complete rip off....I won't forget it.

A whole industry has opened on the gas grill LP supply. In fairness to them, they do have to check the tanks (something I read about meth production and how it eats the valves) and run them around into every possible outlet. I think that might explain why we seem to be reverting to the old "charcoal" grills (we've come full circle).

Brin...that's why they are called "Convenience" stores....you pay a premium for having the "convenience" of not driving across town. It has been close to twelve years since I have purchased ANYTHING at such places except gasoline. If more citizens did that, prices for many items would sharply decrease. $2 for a flavored sugar water? $3 for a deluxe coffee? Frickin' inane I will do without.

Convenience stores or not (even here in ag country), there are no "refill" opertations left and all we have is "exchange" all priced about $20 (Walmart, Cenex, KwikTrip, etc). Part of it might be legal liability. The "exchange" guys do 1,000s of tanks and must have some rules before they fill one and put it on a truck with several others. Personally I would like to fill my own from my house tank but searching on-line yields nothing in terms of parts/instructions.
