price of steel from China on the rise

The steel import tariffs are for a good reason and for a pretty specific problem. Namely, some governments are keeping there mills operating by subsidizing there products. This is happening because the world steel usage has really dropped off and instead of seeing their steel mills shut down, they help them with some $$$ keeping the price artificially low. Seems the fellow from Gilbert MN could address this better than I.. World steel prices are quite low and will remain that way until the world economy picks up. If you have a project you'd like to do, I'd suggest you buy your steel for if shortly. Nonetheless, the future will be changing for the North American and world steel industry. There are two new big mines coming online that will force the price of pellets and steel down. Pellets is what most steel is made from and the NA mines claim a cost of about $50 per ton to produce it. These two new mines will use a "truck-less" mining system and claim they can produce pellets for just $15. As the world economy picks up the prices of steel and pellets will be going back up, but how much??? But for now the price is low.

Arly,,, family is retired from CCI,,, A

heard on NPR radio that the US is putting a 266% duty on steel imported from China
