We call that a load of mill ends here in the NW. Same deal but usually the local loads come with lots of sawdust, yours look clean.

That lumber will burn better than what many people call firewood. Kiln dried, and barkless... good stuff. Keep it off the ground so it stays dry.

I used to buy off this guy many years ago when I heated my house with wood. Some times you get lucky and he saves you a good box of 4x4's some 20 inches long. The wood burns really well and you can really pack it tight into the wood stove to give you a longer burn...

What is a "rick" or "face cord"? I am familiar with the standard 4x4x8' cord, but not these other terms.

In the next week or two, you could get a cord of seasoned oak for $1.00... My Boy Scout troop is going to raffle off a cord of seasoned oak, a dollar a ticket /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

A face cord is a 4X8 stack of wood 2 ft long, although they are usually more like 16-18 inches long.

Not sure what a rick is though. People ususally buy by the pickup load here, just thrown in not stacked neatly, so it is a bit less than a face cord. Seems to be around $75 right now.

Seeing those prices makes me pretty happy that I bought a 10 cord semi-truck at the end of last winter for $550. Thats 100% red oak, green, in 8 ft. lenghts for $55 a full cord. That sould last till just about the end of this winter when demand will fall and the loggers will be cutting like crazy (supply up). I expect I'll pay about the same this year.

Around here a rick and a face cord mean the same thing. 4' high by 8' long stack of wood. Usually cut around 18" to 20" long.

With my luck I'd probably win it...but the trucking would kill me! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In my area, it is mostly sold by pickup load. Which is about 3/4 of a face cord. Or rick as it is called here. Average price is $30 to $40. I made a heck of a deal. Traded veggies to a local sawmill for 3 trailer loads of sawmill wood. It amounted to about 2 full cords. All I had to do was take trailer in and they loaded and called me when ready. There is some splitting and cutting to fit in my furnance. Not bad for winter supply of wood!

Usually around here, central North Carolina, it runs about $65 to $85 for a pickup truck load. I saw a couple of trucks over the weekend and they were going for $100.
