Jstpssng,

Pretty sad when you think we are the most heavily wooded state in the country. I had delivered 3 cords only because I was swamped this summer. But you can bet I am going to drop 5 or so cords this fall for next year. Not to mention pull up about 2 cords of dead wood out of the woods for this winter.

( What is a "rick" or "face cord"? I am familiar with the standard 4x4x8' cord, but not these other terms.

In the next week or two, you could get a cord of seasoned oak for $1.00... My Boy Scout troop is going to raffle off a cord of seasoned oak, a dollar a ticket /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif )

They are measures that (originally) were used to scam buyers. They have becomes somewhat standardized in local vernacular. There is no legal definition of rice, pile, pu load, face cord, etc. Where firewood is included in a states weights and measures reg it can only (legally) be sold by the cord or fraction of a cord.

Face cord varies by locality. Here it would be 4x8x16.

Rick by dictionary is any size stack of wood one stick wide, i.e, 4'x21'x16" would be a rick as would 2x3x24" Mine are 12x7x16 (30 of em currently) and that is just shy of a full cord each.

Yikes, you stack wood 7' high. I used to go 6' and that got a little tippy sometimes. I got really concerned when I started to think of what might happen if some kids where playing on one of the tippy ones. One time I had a stack come down due to high winds. I keep 'em to around 5' now. Those are 20" logs, split.

Well, let's see....I paid $20,000.00 for the 99 F350, close to $400.00 for the saw, $4,500.00 for the little red Massey 35, $500.00 for the used pto log splitter, about $50,000.00 for the 80 acre woodlot, a couple of hundred for miscellaneous chains, wedges, files, chaps etc., not to mention all of the groceries to feed my 15 yr. old helper. So far we have cut about 10 cord of oak and red maple. I guess that comes to about $7560.00 per cord! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
