Price Check Price on 2120 4WD

I came across a 1988 model 2120 with 1400 hours for sale. Asking price is $6000. It has the 9x3 transmission, turf tires and no loader. The owner put a clutch and plate in it last year. It looks fairly clean, no leaks or anything major.

I priced out a Woods loader and R-1 tires and rims for it from the local dealer for $5700. All together I would have less than $11,000 in it.

Does this sound like a fair deal? Is there anything I need to take a close look at on that particular model?

I now have a model 1710 with a loader and backhoe with 500 hours that I would sell as I don't need two tractors. Any Idea what price range that would sell for?

I traded a 1710 for a 2120 in 1987 and still have it. The 2120 is a great tractor, larger framed and stronger than all the Boomers except the TC48 and TC55 with which it shares a frame. The only difference betweeen the 2120 your looking at and mine is I have the 12x12 HSS. It all depends on what you are going to do with it. The 9x3 may be a problem for a lot of loader work. The price seems decent.

I have seen a few with the HSS sticker on the hood. Can you explain how that differs from a 3x9.

Is HSS = hydraulic shuttle shift?

I have a shuttle shift on mine. I love it. Allows me to go from forward to reverse and back with no use of the clutch. I still need to use the clutch to changes gears.

Not if it's a 9x3. The shuttle shift tractors have an equal number of fprward and reverse gear/range pairs so that you can just "shuttle" the lever between forward and reverse in the same gear. The lever also operates the clutch and in later 2120's it is modulated so you don't even need to brake.
The 9x3 is a very good tractor. The 12x12 HSS is a great tractor, one of the best Ford ever made.

No mine is a 1987 and I can go from forward to reverse with out clutching, The difference in later modulated versions is that you don't have to slow down to make it very smooth. When you flip from forward to reverse or vise versa, the system allows the tractor to slow down so that the transistion is velvet smooth. On mine if I don't either pause or throttle down whip lash can occur. Clutching still isn't required.

I still love it after 21 years of hard use.
