Since it's a for a Round Pen, I would think that the placement is on very soft soil for the horses hoves. But, you really don't know what's down deep.

I agree, Barter with friends and neighbors.

I've hit really hard clay/rocks before that acquire alot more time. So if you charge and don't know what's down there, charge by the hour. Think if you hit really hard soil/rocks (assuming you don't have the hydraulic downforce attachment) and needed help with muscle and a Spud Bar. $10 per hole may not be worth it.

Well, if you're digging a hole, now you're an excavator

so, you'll need liability insurance for an excavator.

Most states require you to pay personal property tax on any equipment used in your business, so you'll need to register/pay that.

Many states require workman's comp even for a single employee, so you'll need that.

Typically you need a business bank account and either a LLC/corp or a DBA registered with the state.

If you trailer your tractor, you'll need commercial insurance, not just homeowner's car insurance. (it's about double BTW)

Figure that you'll put hours on your tractor, wear and tear, etc, blades on the PHD and depreciation.

Yeah, $5/hole should cover all that, plus a good wage.

I like the barter system or just helping a good neighbor. My brother worked for the iron workers and was a welder with lots of equipment. His neighbors tractor broke in the middle of a field and was going to be a real expensive problem to fix. My brother pulled his rig out into the field and got him going again in a couple of hours. the next month the neighbor stoped by to thank him with a side of beef. Seems like a good way to do business.
