K, stopped into an Orange (NY) dealer today, 2 hrs away. I puttered around a little on a B2710 with LA402 FEL. It's a 2001 model (off of warranty I think), 138 hours on the ticker and could probably be had for 14,800.

Also, it did not have the 2nd Hydro filter modification. When I queried them they scratched their heads and said they'd charge parts and labor to do the work once they figured out if my claim was legit. Free delivery. wow.

Anway, chime in and sound off on this deal for me. Thanks.

Noone? Based on some comments from Bird, I think the dealer might be wrong about the model year as it has only 1 filter/strainer.

Doug,

Seems high for a tractor out of warranty, plus as you have probably read in the other forums, a new L3010 package w/rebate can be had for a few more $ with a warranty and more tractor.

Can't comment on the dual/single filters.

Doug, just 2 or 3 comments. I don't remember just when they went to the LA402 loader (my '99 B2710 had the LA401 loader), but I think it was in 2000. An early 2001 model may, or may not, have had the two hydraulic filters. Someone else has posted the serial numbers when they changed from one to two. And you say "out of warranty"? A 2001 model should not be out of warranty yet. And since I gave $15,500 for my '99 with FEL, $14,800 seems a bit high to me for a used one, even if it is a 2001 unless it has some other implement(s) with it.

You can still get a 2710 with FEL for $15,500 or less (after rebate). I have quotes in that range now from more than one dealer. Get some quotes and you will get a new one.

Not in my price gouging NY neck-o-the-woods. 15,500 is list for the 2710 w/o Fel. These guys won't move off of list it seems.

That's right, Doug, even in '99 I think $15,500 was "list" for the tractor alone, but my dealer figured $12,600 for the tractor and $2,900 for the FEL.

Check Carverequipment.com and tractorsmart.com. Both seem to have pretty good reputations. Email them for quotes. You may be surprised.

I will always buy from a local dealer if they are competitive (before taxes and shipping costs are considered). Having a good local dealer is worth a lot. However, if you have to pay “a lot” up front with the hope that he is a good dealer…well, I’m not into that. Part of my definition of a “good dealer” is that he is reasonably competitive and doesn’t try to gouge me on price or treat me like I’m a chump. If he does, then I assume he doesn’t want to establish a long term relationship with me and I will go elsewhere.
