Hi, I am fairly new to this forum, although I have been reading posts for several years; great info! I am looking to buy a YM240D with a factory loader. It is the newer of the models, having the air breather on the outside of the hood, but it is still the green color. Everything seems to be in good condition; i.e. loader, 3pt, tires. The rears are turf tires and the front are the R4 industrials. They are asking $5k for it, and I was curious if this was a good price. Any input would be grateful. Thanks.

Thanks again. From what I can tell, it looks to be in pretty good shape. I have been reading posts from here and I am beginning to have an idea of problem items to look for. Any idea of where I can get a manual for it for a reasonable price; the dealer didn't get one from the previous owner? Also, do I need an operator's manual or a parts manual? Just curious on the difference. Thanks.

I'm Not sure about the 4wd I am just 2wd but the ym240 to my understanding is just the US. version of the ym2ooo. Not much difference so a 2000 manual will tell you pretty much everything you need to know how to operate it. The major difference in them is the 240 only has 2 pto speeds as were the 2000 has 3. Most all Us implements use just 1st gear anyways at 540. Also off the top of my head the throttle lever moves in a different direction. On the 240 forward is faster and back is slower. The more you post or ask questions on this form you will bound to hear from California A regular on here and a great guy, he has the 240 also but 2wd.

Thanks Carey!

Bennet.man, if you haven't already, look at the YM240 sales brochures referenced from my sig, below. There are also links to a couple of sound files.

If you have experience with diesel tractors this one should be pretty obvious. it's about as simple as a baseball bat. No fuel pump, no power steering, no frufru.

If you search here on 'Thermostart' and 'compression release', I think those are the only areas where experience on other diesels might not fit this one. (Both are starting aids). Likewise searching here on filters and fluids may be helpful. The transmission and hydraulics share the same sump, and the fluids are pretty much generic same as most diesels.

I suggest buy an Operator Manual, but it's not critical immediately. There are a few posters here who are real US-Yanmar parts dealers and they can provide all the original manuals.

I mistakenly bought an un-needed extra copy of the factory YM240 Service Manual (145 page dealer's shop manual) that I would like to sell. $22 plus whatever Priority Mail costs now. It is new in the Yanmar wrapper. Anybody can PM me if you are interested. Bennet.man has first call; if he doesn't want it then it's up for grabs.

I really appreiciate it. Yes, I would be very interested in it. Do you have a Paypal account that I could send the money to you through? Please shoot me an email at CC_2_2002@yahoo.com with your info.
I looked through your sales brochure, pretty neat! Its refreshing to see a sales brochure in such prestine condition that is 30 yrs old!
About the starting aids; the salesman at the dealer said something about a cup on the top of the engine that has a tube running inside the engine for "warming the diesel". Is this just where you can add a small amount of warm diesel from your garage to start the engine to warm the rest of the fuel in your tank? I was a little uncertain of what he meant by that...

On your TS put some fuel in the cup and then turn your key Counter clockwise for 10-12 sec. You should smell smoke that is the fuel burning to creat heat and help the engine to start easier when cold. Were I live in Ga. I don't even have mine hooked up, Just missing the bowl.Never had to use it since it rarely gets that cold and if it does I'm not going out in it anyways :p. Just joking I have been able to start to handle it a little better lately though.

On your tires check with Hoye at the top of the page. Aaron ran a add in thier tech support just recently I believe he has them used at a good price. I have the Ricers on mine and really like them when I till or Box blade. Most of my cutting is open acreage so they don't cause me any problems. I have yet ran into needing or wanting the turf tires.

I will be using it for mowing my yard as well as my field and I'm afraid that the ricers will dig-in too much and leave tracks. I'm not a big fan of the turfs either, and was hoping to find some R4 Industrials, but they don't appear to be made for this size of tire. Oh well :(
Right now, it is about 0 deg F at my house and they're forcasting the same cold temps for the next week. So that diesel warmer may come in handy first thing in the morning when the engine is so cold from sitting over night! Thanks for that advice!
