Pricing on X500 series

Can someone tell me the typical discount one can expect on X500 series machines?

I doubt that it is a lot in your area, or mine, but I'm curious too. If I get to Walpole this week I'll see what they are asking in the store. Any particular model? I wouldn't expect more than 10%, and probably less around here. I'm kind of interested in the four wheel steer models......

I have not decided on a model yet. I love the 700 series but I might get divorced. I have a 3720 that tried to be dual purpose, my lawn and my field and I have to get a smaller rider for around the house. The issue is being 6 foot 3 I don't want a dinky little machine either.

I do have a line into a used 455 diesel. The owner is trying to figure out if he wants to sell it or not.

The price of the 435,445 and 455's used is typically 5-6k. Would I be better off with a new X500 series?

It all depends on what you're looking to do - if it's just to mow, and maybe snowblow too, the X500 will be fine. But if you are looking to do more, such as add a loader, you'll want the 455. The 455 is plenty substantial; as a 6'3" 455 owner I can say that for sure. It will be better on fuel too.

One downside (obviously) would be no warranty, and in general, older machines are better off with someone who doesn't mind doing some work on them. My 455 has been very reliable, but I have had to replace a couple of parts.

You're right - I missed that part about the 3720; maybe he's not going to need to put a loader on that 455 after all. I'd still say that if the 455 is in good shape and has somewhere in the 500 hour range, that would be my preference. Except for the smelly rattling Yanmar, the 455 is an extremely civilized beast. I'm not sure you'd be gaining much in maneuverability with the X540 over the 455 - I'm very impressed with the small uncut circle of my 455 and 60" deck. Fuel usage would be much lower too - but there is genuine value in a 4-year warranty on the new machines. Tough call - maybe he just needs to ride one and see if the X500 series fits right.

Just to clarify, I will only be mowing 1-2 acres around my house with the 455 or X500 series. I have a 6 foot woods mower for my field. I also have a 300cx loader with a Curtis snow plow on my 3720. I tried using the 3720 for finish mowing and it is just too much around my house.

If the 455 comes available I will take a ride and see how I like it. It has about 800 hours on it, mowing and snowplowing. My dealer said he could sell the blower for me. The guy that owns the 455 takes very good care of his equipment.

If I get the 455 for 5k and sell the blower for 1k(my dealer thinks is reasonable) I get the 455 for only 4k. About half the price of the X540. But, the warranty on the X500 series would be nice also. I realize the diesel will be more fuel efficient, but mowing 1-2 acres once per week, will it be substantial?

My 20hp Simplicity Legacy uses about a gallon of gasoline an hour, my BX22 used about half that. For your land the difference in cost wouldn't be great, maybe a gallon a week.

Just found out from my dealer he has a X700 with 54 inch deck, deck is new, the tractor has 11 hours on it and the customer brought it back and got a 4 wheel drive version. The dealer said I could have it with the deck for $7800. Is that a good enough deal? He said I still get the warranty but can't finance as new.

Bob, if it's a diesel model X700, I would jump on that deal like a tick on a coon dog.

The current X500 series has been gutted. They're now what the X300's used to be and the X700 series is what the X500's used to be.

A very low hour X700 diesel with warranty would be a good choice. The 455 would be my second choice. But, I'm biased.

By now you probably have gathered that I like the little Yanmar diesel engines. Mine is next to unstoppable, and I've tried. My 455 is the perfect complement to my 4410.

You're going to have a lot more than $7800 in this once you add the finance charge to it.

It has 4 wheel drive instead of 2 wheel drive.
It also has a 3 point hitch and a rear PTO.Does the x700 have all this ?
The x700 is a gasoline engine garden tractor but the BX1500 is a Sub-Compact with a diesel engine.

So you've got a choice of:

1) 455 with 800 hours, but owned by someone who takes good care of things, for a net of ~ $4000

2) an X700 with 11 hours, with warranty for $7800

3) a new X500 for $7200

I'd certainly be pursuing option 1 first. If it ever needs any fixin' I think the extra $3200 will cover it. It's also good that you have a jug of diesel in the barn anyway for your other tractor.

I finally got a decision on the 455, the guy decided not to sell it, so that obviously eliminates that option.

I then went and sat on the X500 and X700, being a large guy the X700 fit me a lot better. Not wanting to spend the money for a diesel version X700 and with this being a mowing machine only, the gas version doesn't bother me.

My dealer is working up a final price for the X700 with 11 hours on it. I asked if I could get the more aggressive turf tires and the more rugged seat. We will see what he comes up with. I can also keep looking for another used 455.
