RD,
I see what you mean about the price shopping. You, being a full time business, can turn those customers away gently and not worry about loosing money because you have a client base. The way I would handle a price shopper is, " I see you are price shopping, call me back with your lowest estimate and Ill do my best to beat it." My operating costs are very low and I would prefer to get the job since I dont have a client base yet. 811 is a must on any job, especially inside the city limits.
Clemsonfor,
I would not drive more than 1 hour to a job, if I did it would have to be re figured. I would re figure as fair as possible but as most everyone here says drive time/ fuel costs are built in. My truck and trailer are always hooked up and my trailer has several D rings welded down each side and across the front this makes loading and unloading a snap. I am not like one of those types who never straps their equipment down. Thats pure stupidity in my book.
Swick1,
I already clean and maintain all my equipment myself. Sure it adds a few hours and my maintenance schedule comes up quicker, but since I do it LL myself it isnt a big deal to me.
Piloon,
I always ad in the "unknown" factor. Whats under the ground I cant help, therefore I cant know how long it will take. Most everyone understands that, and if not......well those are the customers I wont be able to work for.
