Pricing/selling rocks

Go to you local stone retail supplier and see what they are charging. I know of three retailers that sell these stones and they have big rocks covered in moss sitting on pallets waiting for a buyer. I can't remember what they are asking but I was suprised at how much people would spend of a big rock to put in the yard.
Good thing for us is that we already have the big moss covered boulders. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A few years ago I sold between 60 and 80 yards of flat stones. If it was a pickup deal, the first load was free and every load after that was $30, they do the loading. I never had anyone stop at just 1 load.
We had 2 customers that needed 20+ yards of stone, I got $50/yard, the customer paid for trucking and loading, (another $50/yard).

I new a guy that gave me all the rocks I wanted for free if I loaded them myself. He just wanted them out of his yard.
I've also paid .10 cents to over .50 cents per pound on rock depending on what type. Flagstone seems to be the most expensive, but I'm sure the price has allot to do with freight and availabilty.

I just got a price of $12 per yard for 3/4" crushed stone, but the same stone crushed to 3" - 4" was $23 per yard. Doesn't make any sense to me why it should cost more for a larger piece when they crush the larger pieces to make the smaller stone. I also went looking for cobble stones, but couldn't find any that were reasonably priced. They started at $4.00 each. I can remember when they would throw them in the town dump to get rid of them. At $4.00 each, the street that we lived on when I was a kid, today must be worth 1/2 million dollars....... and it was only 2 blocks long.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you want to cover rocks with moss.Take a little moss and put it in a blender with some buttermilk.Pour it on the rocks and keep em moist for a couple of weeks in the shade.You got mossy rocks.
