Prius versus Hummer

A prius being a safer vehicle? lol. Try to roll a hummer. The CG is low for a SUV. Hmmm....if I was in a Prius when the F350 hit my truck my daughter and I would be worm food. I'll stick to large vehicles.

I didn't say it was safer - I said the overall safety gap isn't as big as people would initially think, comparing size alone. The H2 isn't even rated by the DOT at safercar.gov (GVW is likely above their cutoff). The expedition did do quite well (5 stars frontal, 3-4 rollover, not rated side). Prius gets a mix of 4s and 5s. If you want real safety - minivans are the best bet - size, mass, unibody construction (absorbs the energy) and more airbags than you can count... Of course, you won't be towing your tractor anywhere with them...

The Hummer most certainly will roll easier than a prius. Good thing they are coming out with "rollover mitigation technology" for 2008 2008 H2 article. Whether it has a high or low CG compared to other SUVs - I doubt it as it sits higher than most other SUVs - big tires, lots of ground clearance etc. But, I admit, I do not have any data to support this observation.

DFM (diesel fuel marine) moving raw material from North America to Asia to Eroupe and back to America eats more fuel than the Prius can ever save! This is for the battery only! Movie Stars drive Prius vehicles followed by Hummers with guards with loaded GUNS.

Toyota Sienna with Class 3 receiver hitch: 3500 lb. tow capacity.
BX2200: 1500 lb.
Snow Bear trailer: 500 lb, GVW limit: 2200 lb.

Legal and it works just fine.

I suppose sub and smaller compacts are the exception.

How do you like the sienna? My parents have one - tons of room. This past march I rented one on a ski trip - it fit 6 adults, a week's luggage & our skis in the van  - no ski rack.

From the few times the other half has let me drive it, (or even ride in it for that matter) LOL, it's a great vehicle. Now I just have to convince her that since she got to upgrade cars from a 95 Gr Voyager (piece of junk) to the Sienna, I need to upgrade from BX2200 to BX24!!! :) :) :)

...Try to roll a hummer.

I did try here to roll a Hummer, this was the closest I got.

Kendall, It does not look steep enough, but by any chance is that helicopter pad in Tellico TN? I see the Cali plate, and the wheels looks small, but I once saw a white hummer free climb helicopter pad and gaurdrail in Tellico, was wondering if that by chance was you. (probably 4 or 5 years ago)

OK, I think we have a terminology misunderstanding here. An H2 is just GMCs largest SUV (I forget the name) with a boxy body on it. It's just a styling change.

A Hummer, a REAL Hummer is completely different from the ground up. The differentials in particular look very peculiar. They don't line up with the center of the wheels! They are VERY difficult to roll.

A truck may be safer than a small car in an accident, but you are also more likely to get in an accident, especially single vehicle accidents. Compared to cars, trucks handle poorly, stop poorly and are more likely to roll over (even the H1, although it's not as bad as some other rigs).

In poor conditions it's not the front wheel drive econoboxes that get into trouble, it's the 4WD trucks. The bigger and more off-road capable they are, the more likely they are to be upside down in the ditch.

If the roads are just slick, I'll take the Toyota Tercel in to work. It's safer. I save the pickup for when there's more than a few inches of snow on the road. And then I chain up, go slow and wave to the suburbans as they zip by me and stop and make sure they're OK when they run off the road.

Of course, everybody is an above average driver, so they only think about the accidents that are someone else's fault when it comes to safety.

Glad you and your daughter are ok. Maybe TBN will send you a new bumper sticker (must have been on the rear glass that got knocked out)
