Less than 26 hours in and the masters of the abstract and professional nitpickers have taken over the thread.
I'm done here.

Correct. So is it personal use or used in commerce?

That is always the question.......If you go to the lumber store and buy a deck for you house is it personal????

If you haul a tractor to the dealer or show is it personal????

If you haul a tractor for someone else and get paid for it are you commercial????

If the vehicle is registered to an individual as opposed to a company and the stuff in it appears personal the I think it would be exempt.

Our outside DOT compliance company says that if we were to use a lettered company truck for transportation of personal goods that the driver does not need a med card or chauffeur license.

One thing here in MI any CMV over 10k has 60 MPH limit like the big boys.

OK that didn't go as planned, tried to copy and paste part of a PDF file.

It was a section that said that DOT # was required for a vehicle with GVWR OR GCWR of 10,001#

That was for interstate commerse.

Thes questions can't be answered without a definition of "personal use".

I agree with your DOT guy.

Were talking apples and oranges, the requirements are for a strait trucks gvw, which is what triggers the need for DOT. If you are over 10k you need one... Someone correct me if im wrong, but the trailer addition doesnt put you into DOT territory, cdl maybe if you go over 26k. You wouldnt have to get a dot number if you had a commercial f250 that had a 8000lb gvw and added a 3000lb trailer.

The trailer counts.

It is GVWR/GCWR/GVW. Which ever is higher.
