I have one nipple that will not take grease. It is the left/right piston for the Back Hoe Boom. I removed the pin to attempt a fix and it was very dry. I tested the nipple, and the grease appeared in the sleave without a problem. I cleaned it up and placed it back in, but I still cannot get grease into the pivot, it just backs up at the grease gun. The pin also needed some help to get in the hole, it's a tight fit and I needed a cold chisel and hammer to get it back in position. What can I do to fix this?

On the plus side, there does not sem to be a lot of binding, but I would like to keep the pivot greased.

You can take the pin out and grease will flow out of it while in your hand ?. Does it have the grease channels?. Are the grease channels too shallow ( factory reject)....you could always Dremel a deeper channel with a carbide ball-end bit...does the grease flow back over the hose end or actually backflow into the gun?..if it flowed over the hose end, I would think the fitting was damaged, but back into the gun would be a whole new story. just look'in for some more info

There are sometimes that a backhoe boom has to be repositioned so that the pressure will be directed so that the pin will be on the opposite side of the hole for the zerk. Then that will allow grease of to go in the zerk.

The pin, about 1" by 6" long, is solid, no "channels". Should I dremel some in? NE1 have a picture what there pin looks like?

With the pin out, the grease moves through the zerk and into the sleave where the pin would be. With the pin replaced, the grease comes out between the zerk and the nozzle. There is no room in the joint for the grease to go!

Sounds to me like you need a new zerk fitting.

I agree with "638". I think the zerk fitting is not sealing. Cheap fix there, but there would be nothing wrong to dremel some grease channels around that pin.
