No you shouldn't have gotten the 6520. You should've gotten the 6000 4x4 like me and BobG, but we'll forgive you for that.
My advice to you would be to be very firm yet polite with the dealer that if this problem continues you expect a solution. That said the solution is up to the individual and what you are willing to accept. Some folks would insist on a new tractor while others would be willing to accept it being fixed every time it happens. I seriously doubt you caused the problem. Once the tractor is run for 50 hours or so everything should have worn in. So if the problem continues to show up after that then you'll know it's something other than being new and operator error. Most likely it won't happen again, but if it does just follow the chain of command so to speak. Try the dealer first and then move on up the ranks. Document everything that happens along the way. Did you happen to ask for the tech guys name?
Just remember if it gets too hairy you can always trade for a 6000 4x4.
Good luck and keep us posted.

All of us have missed gears when shifting, ground gears, etc. First time I have ever heard of a mis-shift causing the transmission to go into two gears. Now the mind starts to wonder on all the possible causes. Could it be as simple as the factory not getting proper alignment during assembly, etc. I would drive it and use as if the problem never occured. Chances are if it is a bad part or pieces, it is going to happen again.

Hopefully not necessary, but you should check with your state attorney general, web site or call, and educate yourself on your states consumer protections laws. However, I have confidence that MUSA will take care of the problem for you and it will not be necessary to go that route.
Best to keep record of what occurs and when.

Oh, and by the way jwcinpk, thats "me, BobG" and Slippy.

bludev, Ah the light of day and adecent cup of coffee can make one see so much better....Hope all are feeling well this morning.....OK now that that crap is over, let's get on with it....I was thinking that the only way on a 8x2 trans to stick a fork, would probably be if you were somewhere between HI and LO, when it happened. I've found that going from HI to LO, or vice versa, you need to put the right hand shifter (1,2,3,4 shifter) in neutral, then move the HI/LO to the desired range. The newer a machine is the more "sticky" this will be. Even with 260 hrs on the 6000 (which has a synchro mesh trans) when I shift from LO to HI or HI to LO, it works much better if I put the gear shift in Neutral, then the range shifter slides right in....Hope all are well this morning. First off.... I'll say I wish I had a 5 for every time I got a tractor stuck in two gears at once. Case's powershift tranny setup in their 1070 to 2390 etc is EASY to pop into two gears at once. The levers can get some play in them and it happens. That said... you beast is quite a bit different arrangement and would be much harder to do, but obviously it CAN happen. With out running one myself and TRYING to do it... I would hesitate to blame you. On the Case models you could usually fix it by hand , but sometimes you had to use your feet. A farmer buddy of mine has at least 3 tractors with this tranny. I had one on two gears just a few weeks back. These are all higher HP Ag tractors, but the principal is the same....

Glad you got it fixed! Unfortunately anything with working mechanical parts there is a certain percentage chance that something will go wrong at some time or another, it's just the facts of life.

Dealers that tell you they have no problems at all are straight up lying to you, why would dealerships even need mechanics if they had trouble free tractors?

Best of luck to you and hope you have many years of troublefree work ahead of ya!

Thanks for all the feedback and opinions. I went and talked to the dealer today about what happened. He said that it was not that uncommon (especially on old Masseys) for it to happen every now and then even though they'd never had a Mahindra do it ... I believe him ... especially after reading some of the comments here.

He also said it was a very simple fix (and he even showed me how to correct the problem).

Thanks again all and I will keep you informed on the issues ... hopefully none ... I still think its a very good tractor
