NH 3045 Cab/CVT
Anyone else here have a 3045 Cab/CVT or similar? This is difficult to explain, but if I depress the pedal slightly from a standstill the tractor will get up to a high speed then drop off. So for example, it's in 2nd sitting still, i depress the pedal 25%, the speed goes to 10mph then drops down to 5mph. I've had a service rep come out and have a look. He says NH is aware, it's normal and they are getting complaints about it and nothing can be done now.

I would imagine it's the same behavior in any NH compact CVT. Anyone else experiencing this?

My Case Farmall does the same thing. When I first test drove the unit, the CNH rep happened to be at the dealer and told me what to expect from the cvt. It did the same thing that you described. The rep said the only time it does'nt do that, is when you push the go petal to the floor and leave it there. He also told me that you can adjust the reactivity(I've already done this) setting to help the slowing when letting off the peddle. Hope this helps some. By the way, how do you like the cvt, and how many hours do you have?

I have 40 hours on it. I had a tc34da and I have to say the CVT isn't as easy to drive as an HST, but it does have it's advantages. The dealer didn't calibrate the CVT so the tech showed me how to do that myself, it isn't documented in the manual. As for the reactivity, the difference between high and low is so minimal that you can barely notice it. I think the reactivity and anti-stall features are gimmicks.

there are hidden menu's to change the range of the reactivity. I don't know where, but a service rep could help you.

The menus for reactivity are well documented, the calibration menu however is not at all. My reactivity settings are L1/H3. I can barely tell the difference between High and Low. Nobody really knows the CVT transmissions well enough to give me a straight answer on the behavior of it.

Did calibrating the cvt do anything? How do you even do that? After reading your post yesterday, I went out after work and changed the reactivity settings in the ADIC, and you are right, hard to feel difference. Have you done any heavy loader work with the tractor? Mine has way more power than my hydro had. The dealer turned up the pressures on my unit though, probably(sp) why it has great power.

It has lots more power than my tc34. I can have a full load of dirt and it doesn't hesitate. Plus the tractor weighs enough that I don't need balast. It will get a little light on the back but my tc34 would lift off the ground even with the tires filled.

Calibrating the CVT is something that should be done every service period. This is how I do it,

With the tractor off, in Neutral and 1st gear. On a level or slight downgrade with 100' feet of room.
Hold the Home button while starting the tractor and release after 5 seconds. "CAL" will appear on the display then "U21" will appear. Raise the RPMs until "CL" is displayed. Pull the E-brake up hard and step on the brakes. Press the "Resume/+" cruise button once. "F" will appear on the display.
Put the tractor into Forward and hold down the "Resume/-" button. The tractor will begin calibrating until the display flashes something like "F ###". Release the "Resume/-" button and "r" will appear.
Put the tractor into Reverse and hold down the "Resume/-" button again. The tractor will begin calibrating again until something like "r ###" flashes. Release the "Resume/-" button and "C" will appear.
Release the brakes and put the tractor into Forward. Hold down "Resume/-" and the tractor will begin moving forward slowly until "C-21" appears on the display.
Calibration is done, turn off the tractor and turn it back on.

I think this calibrates the forward and reverse clutch as well as the variator.

I guess you could get used to doing that, but reading it is tiring!

I calibrated my cvt per your instructions, time will tell if I notice any changes. I use my tractor for many different tasks, as I use it for personel and bussines use. I would have to say that it is more productive than my tc40 hst. It seems to be much better on fuel also. I have put 71 hrs. on it in 3 months with no probs yet. The best part of this thing is the cab, AC this summer was a blessing. So far the CVT works as advertised, and I would rate the unit 8 out of 10. I'll keep you posted on the CVT calibration. God Bless.

tkeefer, very well stated and your calibration instructions are correct. However, the calibration numbers will be different on each individual unit. Don't want anyone thinking there is a problem if they don't see the "21".
