Inspector,

Thank you very much.....

I just got back from Autozone with my water temp gauge.......I enden up buying the Sunpro 2" mechanical.......Sunpro item number CP8207..........$16.74 with tax...........

I guess that I need a metric adapter, which Autozone don't have.............I saw in the thread link that you sent me that the adapter is a 16mm X 1.5mm..........What is this and where do I get it?? Do I need teflon also??

Thanks alot for your time and patience.....

You may want to find out from the guys where you bought the tractor if they had the radiator serviced. With these old tractors (any old vehicles) you never know if it had the right coolant mixture in or if they used dirty water to fill the radiator etc. I rebuilt a 66 Ford F100 some time ago and I had a similar experience in that sometimes it would run normal temps and then suddenly run hot for no apparent reason. I ended up having the radiator serviced. It was about 60% blocked. Buildup of rust and gunge in the core. After they recored it, the problem was 100% sorted.

In your case, I would forget the gauges and read up on cooling systems in general, beginning with never removing the cap from a hot radiator.

Yes sir,

I do believe you are correct......I still have a burn mark under my left arm right in the center of my arm pit........Its actually more aggravating than it is hurting........But it still hurts.

A mechanical gauge is nice to have. I never liked the lights on farm equipment. A good rule of thumb for "Bush Hogs" is five (5) PTO horsepower for each foot in width. Example a five foot Bush Hog equals twenty five (25) PTO horses. A Bush Hog to large for a tractor will bring on heating problems in a hurry. Permanent damage will also occur to the engine and drive line. A Bush Hog is in my opinion one of the most dangerous pieces of equipment to use with a tractor. I don't think I would feel safe using one that was to large for the tractor.

I agree...........the 5' bush hog squealer is too big for my tractor........

I MAY HAVE SOLVED MY PROBLEM................

I flushed out the radiator and engine block, like Soundguy recommended.............................Was pretty dirty, but not as bad as expected...........Then I noticed something............The fan/alternator belt was a tad loose...........I could turn the fan with a little pressure with of course the engine killed, and the belt would not turn.......I tightned the belt up............I then went back to my bush hogging..........I actually got everything cut!!........The light NEVER came on and I was cutting in 4th low, and 2nd high.....Tested it with a cooking thermometer and it read about 195 degrees...........I just need a way to test the light now.................ANY SUGGESTIONS??????.....When do I need to put antifreeze back in? What mixture do I use????.............Stuart with RCO is still sending me a new temp sending unit....

Test the light??? Didn't you say it came on, so you knew it was hot? There is nothing else to test, it works. Sounds like you have found and fixed the problem with the heating, already.

I know why the light didn't come on.............

The wire where it plugs in on the sensor wasn't making good contact.......Anyway,.......The light does come on......I stuck a thermometer in the radiator and it was reading between 180 and 195 degrees and the LIGHT WAS ON..................I do not believe the light should be on at these temperatures..........I think the sensor is bad............RCO is sending me one.............I'll just have to remember to put antifreeze in it before winter.............A buddy of mine has some "water wetter" that i'll put in the radiator......He said that it only takes a few cap fulls...........I'm still going to install my Sunpro temp gauge, as soon as I find the correct adapter somewhere........

Thanks,

Travis
