Problem with Woods(Frontier) Tri-Plex Mower - decks not turning the right way

I would return that thing in a hurry
and buy a Hiniker flail mower with
the road transport wheel assembly
mounted to the end of the flailmower
to allow it to be towed anywhere.

Its hard to screw up a gear box with one
input shaft point and three output shafts
unless and only unless the casting was
not marked as such for the buyer/reseller.

You have stock in that company???

Center Deck will be turning (once I rotate the splitter 90 degress) same direction as pto as they are attached rigidly, side decks are geared off the central shaft, so they will turn opposite of each other and in same direction as Center Deck relative to there respective gear boxes.

OK, I understand how the splitter gear box works now. The input for the tractor PTO and the center output is all one shaft, hense turn same direction. This shaft must then turn a gear which drives gears for each side output shaft. Then the side output shafts will be turning the same direction (looking at the gear box) as the center gearbox. I knew all the gear boxes had to turn the same direction (only thing I got right) Learned something today, thanks.

No,

I do not have any financial relationship with the Hiniker Group in any form.

A 15 foot wide flail mower with a tail wheel assembly for towing is a lot less problematic than dealing with a folding rotary mower like this in my opinion because its SIMPLE to own and operate.

I believe This gearbox is a one to one gear assembly where 540 RPM is delivered to the gearbox and the primary bevel gear is mated with the three other bevel gears that are connected to the three output shafts connected to the three gearboxes on the outer wings and the center mowing deck delivering 540 rpm to the mower spindles and then accelerating mower blades.

No way I'm going to be able turn a 15' Flail with 60 HP.....

The tech came today and turned the gearbox 90 degrees, works purrrfect now.

Works great with the new Tractor (JD 4520) - I love Load Match and Ehydro - I can mow full out in Range B at about 10.2 Km/H, disengage the PTO and it only does 10.3 at same RPM so the 60HP is having no problems with the 12.5' Mowing width - Next try I'll try Range C and see how fast I can go and still get a nice cut.

Well,

You would have to travel a little slower with your prime mover
as it is a hydrostatic/automatic transmission but a 15 foot flail
mower would still mow well for you.

I am certainly glad that they came to unscrew the scew
up that you inherited when you bought the bloody thing.

I hope they did not charge you for the repair and that they used
The Red Loctite thread locker to secure the bolts and and nuts,
preferably they use grade 8 fine thread Allen Head Capscrews for
the assemblies as they will not loosen up if torqued properly with
a torque wrench.

Scalp much? The reason for a tri-deck mower is that you have 3 independent decks which each float and reduce scalping. A 15' single deck at less than 6" will scalp like crazy.
Dont forget HP either, Hiniker doesn't list recommended HP, but Gearmore recommended at least 100HP for their U1530 15' flail.
On ease of movement a folding rotary mower will take much less space to store, is MUCH easier to trailer and can be narrowed to the width of the tractor without leaving the seat.
And last, but not least, the 15' Hiniker takes a 1000RPM PTO which has a different shaft on the tractor end than the 540RPM PTO on the OP's tractor.

Aaron Z;

A 540 RPM Vrisimo flail mower would also work very well,
I simply mentioned the Hiniker product in passing
as the towing wheel assembly is attached to the left or
right side of the flail mower end plate allowing it to be
towed, turned in either direction, backed up in a straight
line with a machine width narrower that the tractor itself,
which allows for easy storage and he could employ a
540 female/1000 male spline adapter if needed.

Riiiight.... How about the fact that a 1000RPM flail needs a PTO spinning at 1000 RPMS to mow efficiently? While that tractor is listed as having the e-pto which could get the PTO up to 1000 RPMs, it only has 60HP and it will have less than 60HP available in e-PTO mode.

There is a time and a place for a flail, but there is also a time and a place for a rotary mower.

Glad they got you fixed up! Do you have any pics of your rig? Would love to see one in action.

What happens if you raise one of the decks with the PTO still running at 540 RPM? Does the manual state anything about what the max allowable angles are with the PTO engaged?
