Nice house!

Last weekend, when my foot was still in one piece, we brought in an excavator and rebuilt the septic system. While we had the digger, I dug up several large stumps and boulders. Used Clementine (L3010HSD) to move them all, as well as to backfill the ditches. She performed admirably. Also used her bucket to scoop up the loose dirt where the stumps used to be. She handled it so well I kept digging down to the rock ledge and that's where I'm building my shed for firewood. Well, that's where I will build it when the cast comes off! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Boondox,
I have a 420 excavator coming in this weekend for stumping and to crush an old well. I can't wait until he leaves so Jezebel can get busy.

Jason -- I was really amazed at how well Clementine was able to handle packed dirt! Didn't expect problems with the fluffed up stuff, but when the disturbed dirt was gone and I started on the hard stuff she kept going like gangbusters! Sure, the controls needed a bit more finesse, and roots and rocks got in the way, but she kept on digging till we hit the ledge (i.e., we hit Planet Earth).

There was one boulder in particular that was about 9" shorter than the width of the FEL and so bulky the excavator was needed to scoot it into Clementine's bucket so it wouldn't fall out, but she was actually able to pick it up and carry it a couple of hundred yards up the hill. The way she handled that boulder, and the 60' fir she pushed across the meadow with no trouble at all, just fill me with awe at the power of this girl!

And she hasn't been above 2,000RPM yet!

I love to hear that. The excavator is 44,000 lbs and has a 27' reach. I'm going to let him beat on his toy. I have some 4' in diameter stumps. I have the 66" bucket and I think a couple of them will be twice the size of the bucket. I don't want to push Jezebel (13 hrs) just yet. After the 50 hr service I think she will do some harder work. I've ripped up some 4-6 " in diameter stumps but I will let the big boy take care of the others. I haven't done anything that has pushed the limits of Jezebel but soon enough she will be put to the test. So far I am extremely happy

I have dug a few stumps. The largest being about 6". But to tell the truth I had to axe some roots to help it along. The scariest to me was when I seemed to hook a root on the corner of the 66" bucket a lift the rear tire on the opposite side. That is a strange feeling. All I am using for ballast is the heavy duty woods rear blade. (About 500lbs.) Do you have the tires filled on your 3010's? I think a backhoe would do a much better job. But it is still a whole lot better than hand digging.

One thing I do with all my tractors is to set aside a day, don all my safety gear including chainsaw helmet, and set about to discover the limits. Lifting in the middle of the FEL feels different than lifting with the corner. Figure out what it takes to lift a corner of the tractor off the ground. What's a safe slope to traverse...even if the slope is bumpy. These were some of the limits I wanted to know. With my B1750 I even chained it to the Pathfinder (so it wouldn't go over all the way) and intentionally tipped it to get a feel for where the point of no return was. Haven't tried that with Clementine since she outweighs the truck! Knowing at which point to be concerned was a real confidence builder for me.

But that's just my way. I figure there are a lot of folks out there content to just take it easy and not push things. And that works fine, too. Oh, and yes, my tires are loaded. Makes a world of difference.

daschluck,
I don't have the R4 tires filled. I really haven't come across the need for them yet. In some areas of my yard tend to get soft and I don't want the extra weight. I use my Land Pride 7' hd Blade for counterweight. I lifted my back wheel up much like you did. Almost had to change my underwear! I've been pricing backhoes and right now I'm not ready to buy. Soon!
