Fences and distance make great neighbors.

Indeed. The OP may find that the neighbors aren't that bad now that he doesn't have to looks at them. I live in a straw house and no neighbors can see my place so my wife and I can dress however we like or not at all.

We don't have any homes adjacent to our property where we live. If I want to, I can take a PI*S off either the front or back deck. When we lived in Florida, we had our home on a cul-de-sac with seven adjacent homes. One must learn to co-exist with one another. I respect the OP's needs. I do wish to state one very important fact, and in doing so, it is not my attention to place judgment on the way people choose to live or the methods they undertake to alienate or distance themselves from their neighbors. But, the fact remains, that we as Humans should learn and discover better methods to coexist, than to isolate one's self behind a fence. Just a thought?

Sometimes the fence makes it easier to coexist. I'm most likely a somewhat ghetto neighbor. My place is messy. I have opinions that my neighbors disagree with. But see, we get along because they can't see my place, I'm polite when we meet, I'm careful about sharing my opinion and I'm quiet so that it is easy to forget that I'm there. I'll help when help is needed but generally I mind my own business. Now if my neighbors had to stare at my disorder we might not get along.

Actually, by definition, it's now the OP who is the ghetto neighbor, by fencing himself in. Regards, Mike
