I paid $1.50 here for the last fill. Highest was $1.55 this winter.

I pay $50/yr rent on the tank and that includes any maintenance.

I use a Rheem power vent water heater and I am happy with it. Expensive up front but seems to be efficient.

I just paid 2.19/gal here in coastal CA. That is the highest I have seen
it. I bought my tank (125 gallon vertical ASME tank) from the manufacturer
(Manchester Tank) in OR for $500 incl shipping. I use about 10-15 gal
per mo averaged out for the whole year for range, dryer, and 40K BTU
forced-air furnace. 2000 sf house, ICF construction. $55/mo for
electricity at 11.5 cents per KWh if under 550 KWh/mo. It goes
way up after the first 550 KWh.

I was under the impression that these tanks had to get inspected or hydro tested every ten years, how does that work if its in the ground?
I will be calling them Monday if they're open. I hope they made a big mistake
Thanks for all the replies
Jim:)

Mornin Jimi,
My 330 gal tank is above ground, I had it hydro tested when I had the gas company hook it up to the house. Im not sure how often it needs to be retested, I would think as long as its holding pressure it should be ok. There isnt much that can go wrong with it other than a rusted fitting on top of the tank ! ;)

I just got off the phone with the gas co. and They said the going price right now is $3.30 per gallon and the taxes bring it up to $3.35 , they said they could not do anything about it. I said I can, change co. and hung up

My goodness. I will never complain about my propane bill again. Here in eastern Oklahoma it is $1.59 per gallon. I own my own tank. Bought it new about five years ago for $850 installed. Used ones are hard to come by.

FYI.. When I first moved into my house five years ago I paid .79 cents a gallon for propane!
I wasn't going to say anything until I saw your post. I paid $1.42 last week for my house tank. I do buy a lot of propane. I have 8500 gallon capacity. That's 8 - 1000 gallon tanks and 1 - 500 gallon tank. We have owned the 500 gallon tank since 1972. I bought the 8 - 1000 gallon tanks in 2000. The 8 were about $11000.

I rent my tank, and usually fill it once in the summer when prices are low. We have gas wall heaters and a small house, so that usually last the winter. I had to refill before this cold snap (what happened to the global warming) and paid a much higher price also. I will do like my parent this summer and prepay for an extra fillup. I have been looking at the tankless water heaters myself. Anyone tried those yet? JC

I own my tank so I can have anyone fill it, but normally been paying about $1.50 a gallon Only time they pressure check is if you run it empty or add/move an appliance (how they gonna know, I don't tell). My dad used to drive the propane truck for our local COOP so propane is no big deal to me... can't imagine payin that much for it though... my 1000 gallon tank would eat me alive.. 1.50 is bad enough... our furnace and water heater run on it, but we heat with wood most of the time.

Just had my 500 gallon tank filled for $1.34 per gallon. The week before it was $1.24 but it was on my " to do list " and forgot to schedule. The highest price quote was $1.60 per gallon in a customer owned tank.
Car gasoline just hit $2.84 a couple days ago. Over three a gallon predicted by summer.

I prebought 700 gal last year for 1.75/gal. should have around 200 gal left after this cool spell is over.

I have a very inefficient old furnace. Am upgrading to high effeciency this year, should cut my useage down by 25% next winter.

since I will install my own furnace it should pay for itself in not much over 2 years if that.

If by chance you have a/c and might need to replace it in the future, may I'd suggest looking at going with a heat pump and going with a basic 80% gas furnace and "duel fuel" the heat pump and propane furnace together? You can run the heat pump to say 40 or 30 degrees, then kick on the gas furnace when it gets below that. I have three gas/ac/ systems, and just changed out the upstairs system last year, and even though the upstairs has the smallest square footage, I've gone way over that 25% savings on the LP. But, if your winters are longer and colder than your summers, and a/c is more of a convienience sp? than a "must have" (and I learned moving to N.C in the summer that a/c is a must have!) may be more up front cost than it's worth. However, if by chance the a/c does need to be replaced down the road, it may be something to consider.
