Proper Engine Speed for BX-22 \'Hoe Use?

The title of the post says it all...what engine speed, generally speaking, is "most efficient" when using the backhoe on a BX-22. TYIA

I find mine works best at 1/2 or 2/3 throttle. If I have to dig or move something extreme, then I'll go to full power.

I've also found it best to put the loader blade straight down into the ground and raise the front wheels 2 inches off the ground. If you don't, the hoe will pull the machine around easily.

Jim,

No scientific answer here, but I run about 3/4 throttle. I am still in the "break-in" period (42 hrs to-date) and Kubota recommends no full throttle until 50 hrs. However, I do want plenty of hydraulic power, efficiency, cooling, etc. In fact, I do most of my mowing, bush hogging, and any heavy loader work at 3/4 to 7/8 throttle. I'm a novice with the backhoe, so maybe we can learn together from someone who knows more!

I have a "tiny-tach" installed on my BX22. I find that I tend to do most of my work around 2700-2800 rpm. Any less than that, the boom moves too slow for me - especially if you want operate more than 1 cylinder (inputs from both joysticks).

My dealer said to put throttle to the limit and then back down a little bit. So saying that is 7/8ths throttle how does that compare with your 2700-2800 rpm.

I say if you are going to work a mahine with a diesel engine run it at its rated speed (full thottle). As for break in I would not be concerned about full thottle before 50 hours. Does anyone drive their new car below 50 niles per hour for the first 500 miles like alot of owners manuals say. Follow the manual for the oil changes(except change the filter everytime not every other!) and run that baby WAO. Its a machine so dont baby it run it like plan to use it and all will be fine.

Re: Proper Engine Speed for BX-22 \'Hoe Use?

I ran my break in acorrding to the manual. When I run mine it is full throttle unless I am idleing. Then I just bump it up a little bit to keep it from lugging the engine. P.S, Yes I drive my car varied speeds for the first 500 miles and keep it under 50mph. It drives my wife nuts. Then I drain all the fluids. Fill it up and take it to the track :)
