The manual for my BX 24 states that the FEL and BH should be on the ground when the tractor is parked and turned off. I assume this is to release pressure from the hydrolics. For the sake of space in the Garage, can the BH in particular be left in the normal up and tight position to save space if the 2 transport pins are installed?

Keeping the implements up won't hurt the hydraulics.
However, it is a safety issue since they may leak down or someone might push a lever and cause them to drop.

However, pinning the BH is perfectly safe and acceptable.

I lower the tiller and front blade on the BX1500.
On the BX23 i lower the fel but not the BH.

Concur with the safety thing. Implements down OR pinned is absoutely the way to go. My BH outriggers bleed down over time too, so I put a tight bungee cord on them to keep them up. Not really a safety thing, but over time, they end up taking up a bit of floor space. Not to mention that it pinned down my little girl's Power Wheels Barbie Jeep. Wife had to wait for me to start the tractor to get her un-stuck.

And don't put anything under the BH, even if it is pinned. The actual bucket will roll down (very very slowly) and squish (very very slowly) whatever is under there...like the soft plastic wheel of a Power Wheels Barbie Jeep.

Thanks guys. The BX will take up much less garage space without the BH down.

I started pinning my BH in th up postion after one day when I was in a hurry I started to drive off with the BH down....Made a nice little trench before I realized what I had done...luckly the BH wasn't damaged...

There are companies out there that will require you to lower all hydraulic equipment before getting off the machine.:D

I made a brace that fits over the hydraulic shafts and prevents the FEL from dropping... each side... for the very occasional situation where I need to be working in the engine... it's easier if the FEL is lifted... but I don't want it to come down on me. otherwise, I lower FEL and 3ph when parking the vehicle.

Excellent idea for home owners and a law in the work place to block potential energy from unwanted discharge and in this case falling and crushing the unsuspecting victim. As for the Outriggers unless equipped with counter balance block holding valves will bleed off to return line to tank as soon as the pressure from the pump ceases.

Therefore, deploying O/Rs to support the weight of the backhoe is a dangerous practice without pressure on the ram. Drop your bucket to the ground, and releave the pressure by using a circular motion on the FEL valve handle, pin your BH swing function and boom drop, tie your O/R up to hold them in the retracted positon otherwise they will slowly drift down becoming a space hazard. Your bucket can be blocked or tied in place to also prevent a possible crush and space hazard.

OSHA was called a four letter word by Ronald Reagan, take it from a safety professional if you follow the 1910 standards for lock out / tag out at home, even your smallest pets will be safe from harm, not to mention your families most prize possession, 'you' my friend.

Ummmm, OSHA is a 4 letter word.
Seriously, funny thing is, OSHA made the Ag community exempt from their rules.
