Kubota B3030HSDC
I generally use Mobil 1 in my cars and I want to do so with my tractor. In my B3030 owner's manual it says, When an off-road vehicle engine runs on a high sulfur fuel, it is advisable to employ the CF, CD, or CE lubricating oil with a high total base number. In a chart it says CF is recommended with a remark TBN (I assume total base number) > or = 10.

I went to the API website and all of the API oils specified in the Kubota manual are now obsolete! There are only 3 API diesel service categories that are current: CH-4, CI-4 and CJ-4.

However none of these oils are specified for high sulfur diesel.

It does say for the CJ-4 specification that if you are using it with high sulfur oil, consult the manufacturer for the oil change interval. Maybe I should just start buying the on road diesel and take the tax credit for off road use.

Here is a link to the API service categories:

Any thought as to what I should be using in my tractor?

Sulfur is bad stuff. In the oil patch, H2SO4 in natural gas will eat holes in ordinary steel pipe, and they have to use stainless steel when it is present. My preference is to use ultra low sulfur fuel at the highway vehicle pumps.

Todays low sulfur diesel fuels do not require a high total base number(TBN) anymore so ANY good brand oil like Delvac,Delo,Rotella of currant HDEO API(CJ4) will work just fine.

and Sulfur is a good thing, that's part of what lubricates your injector pump/injectors. Thats why older tractors should run a additive for lubricity because todays fuel is dry,lacks sul.

I use Mobil 1 0w30 synthetic in my 4010 engine because it is what I was using in every other engine I own, including our old 1983 240D for a couple years or so before selling it. Now, my new VW TDI requires Mobil 1 ESP or Castrol SLX to meet their VW 507 spec. The ESP is only available at Pep Boys so far, and in 5w30.

The 0w30 is rated "gasoline" but has a light diesel rating. The 5w40 "SUV" oil is fully diesel rated if you want to go long hours on an oil. I change once/year, generally about 50-60 hours any more.

the problem with those mobil oils listed is the low zddp and calcium levels, they may be rated for light duty diesel. But any of the true HDEO is going to be more shear stable as well as have a better add pack for heavy diesel use..........

1st column is the mobil 1 TDT 5w-40, Second column is Rotella HDEO 5w-40 T-6 Still looking for my voa of mobil 1 0w-30.
The mobil 1 0w-30 is a great oil I use it in some of my Gasoline engines, but the tdt formula is more robust and any hdeo is yet again more robust than the tdt

as you can see here the amsoil hdd (heavy duty diesel) is a winner and at a low weight 5w-30 its a real performer, the bargain here is the motorcraft 15w-40 which is a great deal of performance for such a cheap purchase price

Thanks for the information guys.

I bought enough Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 to do the job. I live in the super boonies but there is a truck repair facility 5 miles form and they carry Delvac in bulk, so I had to bring my own container.

We have a FT404, that takes: STOU 10W/30 GL-4 (equiv. SAE80W transmission oil):

  • Engine sump 7 l (API CD)
  • Gearbox 27 l (MF1135, M2C 86A, JD J20A)
  • Front axle 7 l (MF1135, M2C 86A, JD J20A)
  • Lifter 12 l (UTTO for hydraulics)
  • Steering 0.8 l (UTTO for hydraulics)

I would recommend what our dealer already has put into the tractor, Agrol Turbo Kombi, a STOU oil. Similarly we can use Statoil MultiWay or OKQ8 T1000, all 10W-30. We can also use Biltema Tractor Oil Universal, Kombiolja 10W-30 at 269 SEK for 10 liter.

In the FOTON user's manual, the requirement for oil is separated for the engine and for the transmission/hydraulics. These STOU oil recommendations above exceeds the requirements for the tractor. Both the low cost and the handling of a single oil bought in large quantities (10 or 20 liter) makes STOU a given for these 1980-decade of tractor technology.

That's what we practise with our Foton FT404, and it also came with Agrol Turbo Kombi oil in all reservoars. It worked well during the Nordic cold winter period as well.

We have also found Baldwin equivalents for the fuel & lube filters:
  • Clarcor Filtration: WBF7608 -> Baldwin BF7608
  • Clarcor Filtration: WB202C -> Baldwin B7451
