Proper RPM range for FEL work?

Thanks to all posters for the great information. As a lot of you have suggested, I think as I get more time on the tractor I'll get a better feel for what rpm range to work in. I did a little more FEL work today on the same dirt pile, and I was much more comfortable using the FEL today than I was yesterday. Although I still have a long way to go before I become proficient at it. I was moving pretty slow, but was concentrating more on technique than speed.

In regards to WOT, my thoughts are to use the least amount of throttle that it takes to get the job done. I don't really like running any engine @ full throttle unless necessary, but that's just me.

Today, I ran the rpm's @ 2000 to 2100 and had no problems or stalls. When I stalled the other day, I'm pretty sure I just had too big of a bite in the dirt. Guess you shouldn't try and move the whole dirt pile in one bucket, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I run mine around 2100 when doing FEL work, it seems to work real well, I found I quit stalling it when I learned to use the HST pedal better. My initial impulse was to push down harder on the HST pedal when I wanted more power, but you will find that stalls the engine, backing off the HST pedal when you start to slow will let the RPMs stay high and push harder into the pile. It seems counterintuitive at first....

I agree with you. When I stalled the other day, I'm pretty sure I floored the foot pedal (in a panic) and that's when the engine quit. It's just going to take a little "getting used to". Thanks for the input.
