Property line trail/ track

So here's a question; Once the trail's done I'm confident in saying that vegetation will try to take over. There's two ways I could go; drive the ride on mover around to keep it cut down, or spray to kill things off. The first would probably leave two tracks with "grass" in the center and sides. The later would probably look better, but cost more.

Before I thought I'd grade it to keep growth down and keep things smooth, but I'm not sure that's the way to go. I'd probably rather one of the above two options and spot fill if needed.

With all the work you put into it, definitely go with option 2: spray it. That will keep it looking nice and free of vegetation. If you were to grade it, I think you would need much more gravel, otherwise you will be down to dirt when you grade.

Lookin good! I admire your work ethic!

That's what I was thinking. Right now I'm kind of putting the bare minimum to make it level and get over the roots that stick out. I may go back later and add more, but that'll only be once I've gone around the entire trail.

Thanks for the kind words.

I don't really care a lot about the appearance of my trails' surface, so mowing periodically is good enough for me. If the nice, clean look is what you are after, then herbicide is what you'll need. You may do spot spraying or make a skirted spray boom to do the entire trail surface.
I don't know about NS, but here in PEI herbicides are very expensive unless you have an applicator's license.

Here's another question; with all the sweat equity, do you think this walking trail (once done) would add some value to my house?... not that I plan to ever leave. LOL

It may not add equity but for the right person that's wanting to buy it could seal the deal much quicker at a higher price.

I agree with what sld said. Somebody who is seriously interested in the property will be more likely to buy if they can stroll through it and appreciate its attractions without having to crash through the brush...a balance of wild and civilized!

With my trail, in the areas where it is twice the tire track width, the vegetation stays down. This is because I drive different path every time, sometimes through the middle, sometimes to the right or left. This keeps from forming ruts and keeps the soil/gravel compacted enough where weeds won't take. Where the trail narrows, I get ruts with weeds in between. Use it a lot!

I agree with the post above. Your trail may not add much in value but will help seal the deal for the right buyer.

At the edge of the berry patch clearing looking back towards the house.

Lots going on here; tree house, blueberry bush, gravel, and my "tractor". LOL

Not looking too bad if I do say so myself!

DONE!

Ended up being 31 trailer loads. I'd say an easy 4 were left at the dump spot.

My buddy came over and helped me move so rocky gravel someone brought. Probably got a dozen loads moved with the bike onto the trail, and he spread the rest on the campground.
