Looking at these two. What are the points I should be considering?

Thanks.

the 2000 has 24" rear wheels ( tires are cheaper), engine water pump, otherwise very similar. A lot of parts even interchange.

I believe the 2000D is 4WD drive. If you plan on adding a FEL then that would be a better choice from what most on here say. I have a 1900 2WD with a loader and I love it. Does everything I need.

The asking price of the 1700 should be maybe half of the 2000D.

I would say this is a comparison between inexpensive and sufficient, compared to competent for more than you are likely to need.

I have owned the US equivalent of a YM2000 for seven years now. It's 2wd with a heavy loader. This is sufficient for my use. 4x4 would be nicer but not essential.

IMHO you need 4x4 on the smallest tractors because they are so light. Around 1800 or 2,000 lbs you reach a point where 2wd and ballast is sufficient. Not ideal, but sufficient for many applications including loader use.

But this is just one opinion. Listen to everyone then get what you need for your intended application.

Are they at a dealer? recons? Vietnam? U.S.?

I would think the 4wd issue over carefully; it's better for loader work, and will come in real handy for those muddy days, and for hilly terrain.

What do you want to do with the tractor? That will have a lot to do with which one to buy.......

Wondering about the price difference? The four wheel drive, heavier, bigger tires, more horsepower, is going to have much more to offer. You have not stated your intended use of the tractor so it is hard for us to determine which might be best for you.

I would also consider the condition vs price on these two ... might make up your mind or the choice easier.

Hey y'all -- thanks. Sorry I wasn't more specific.

I am tending towards the 2000D for a variety of reasons -- most of which you covered above.

We have 11 acres -- about 8 in pasture for 3 horses and a donkey ;-), basically pretty flat, considering we live in the mountains. 4 are my hay field. (A neighbor with all the cool green machine$ cuts and bales for us.)

I need the tractor for pasture maintenance and good stewardship, as I just can't justify paying to bush hog it all (some acreage more frequently than others) as much as I need to control the buttercups, burrs and broom sage. (I have future intentions of new board fencing also, for which an auger will be very useful.)

After lurking for the past 6 - 8 weeks I have determined that a FEL is the way to go. I can see us using that a lot. And 4 WD. I don't want to have to pull me or my husband out of some place with the truck ;-) {I am convinced that 4WD, duct tape and bungee cords are gifts from God.}

I think I am headed for Yanmar, mainly because they seem to have the compact market covered pretty well and are more in my price range. I hear they are fairly easy to work on. We did look at a 1500D several weeks ago.

I buy the equipment, hubby works on it (does all our car stuff, our truck is diesel...) We're not going to be as innovative as many of you ... just looking for dependable little workhorse. Oh yeah ... we're also "old." Well, not really, but sort of ... pretty active retired.

Money-wise we are limited, but I have had to up my range some to get a compact 4WD w FEL (no grapple ... yet, stormpetrel :) ) and a 4' bush hog.

What I am thinking of checking out is a YM 2000D 4WD w 5' FEL (Bush Hog brand). 921 hours $5800 (I think he has come down from $6200)

I don't think the 1700 w 4' [red] FEL is 4WD, so I'll let that go by. Only 28 hours since refurb but he wants $5900. (Less HP) I may still call and check.

There is one other one I can't get the guy to call me back on. Don't know what model it is, but ad says it's 25 HP. Comes with FEL and 3 pieces of equipment for $6700 but that's really getting up there for us. (I woud sell the box scrape and rake if I got it to bring down the end cost for me.)

I have been hanging out over at Hoye so I have seen some their info.

Now -- my question re refurb stuff. How do I know whether it is one of the Vietnamese ones (which I do not want, right? Why again?)

I think the YM2000D guy knows what dealer his came from (he may be the second owner? ) Is that something I need to check?

Well -- that's a lot for now.

Oh yeah -- I played the "I Want a Yanmar" video for my husband. He laughed. *I* want the Yanmar. He thinks I'm a little crazy but is trying to humor me. He didn't think we needed the old 4x4 F250 either. But tells me fairly regularly now that he "loves my truck."

I told him when I got the tractor he'd love that too.

I think you are gonna make one great Yanmar owner!!!:D:laughing::D:laughing:

The Vietnamese recons commonly have cheap "house brand" loaders.....V2.
Some people buy em and love em....others have some problems.

If you knew where your seller had bought the machine it would be a great help.

Oops, gonna be late for work! More later........

Any history of a tractor could be valuable. Also very important is how does it look, crank, run right now. Sounds like both you and your husband have considerable knowledge mechanically. I consider myself to be mechanically inclined, however, I purchased a vn tractor and was burned pretty bad. After a couple of years and considerable consternation I now have a dependable tractor. I agree with Stormtrel, the Bush Hog brand loader would hint the tractor probably isn't a vn re-do. Even if it is a vn re-do and has been in service for a year or two without problems then I would conclude it will probably be ok. Vn re-does are not 100% bad. If the $5800 includes the 4' mower and all is in good condition I would consider that a good buy in Northeast Texas, don't know about where you are at.
