The one time I had a game tracker and used it to see if people were getting on our place, I just hid it off the road. There was really no way to see the thing unless you knew it was there are were very lucky in looking in the right place.

Mine was not a camera but just noted the time and date of when something walked by. Which for me at the time.

I could put a game camera in the same place and nobody would likely see it. High up in a tree is even better since it makes it that much less likely to be seen. If it is seen there is not much they can do about it. One of the main reason for using a deer stand is that deer do not look up much. Neither do people.

Later,
Dan

Gettin' good info from ya 'll !! I think I spotted the perfect non-conspicuous tree . Since the perps have followed the same m.o. on all occasions, pickin' a spot is easy . They start at rear of house, use the same window ( no matter how I board it up ) to enter, and then unlock the same exterior door to leave . The tree is located in a direction they are not likely to look . It also gets visually lost among many other trees in the same area . I plan to mount high and camo with natural stuff like Spanish moss, leaves, small sticks/ branches, maybe some vine .

Just gotta decide which cam . Can 't spend much more that $ 160 +- and a little extra tossed in for security box and lock . Been lookin ' at the Bushnell Trophy Cam .

I guess to steal or damage the cam they 'd have to cut tree down or shot out the cam . Either way I would hear the activity and maybe get the police here in time . Their response time from the time of my call requesting a simple police report request was 15 mins to a non-911 police number .

Have you thought about a driveway alarm??? They work on people and animal movement. IF they are coming from a certain direction... you can set it up to let you know they are there. If you want to catch them... The motion detectors alert you to any movement. :2cents:

Driveway alarm

I 'm afraid that won 't work for me . I live at one residence and the other vandalized one is vacant on an adjacent piece of property I own .
Heavy woods between the properties and a great distance . Too far for wireless and too far and wooded to hard wire . Also the private road leading to the house is a shared right of way for several other families that own field property passed the house and further back in the woods . Much vehicular and ATV traffic traveling the road that would cause false alarms when no one was actually on my property . Right of ways are an irritating reality of country livin ' .

However, I will give drive alarms further thought .

Put it in a birdhouse. I even have my video surveillence cameras in the bluebird houses. From 30' the perps can't tell. Only problem will be from a few homeless sparrows.

Excellent idea I think I will build the bird house around the camera. thanks

Dakota alert murs unit I beleive has a 2.5 mile range and is wireless. You possibly could set it up that when they moved across the beam it would set it off, they have magnetic and motion. The motion picks up everything

Bushnell had some serious quality issues last year. I have Stealth, Spypoint, Wildgame and Moultrie (both large frame and small frame ones).

From my experience, I prefer the Moultrie M-80. It is one of the smaller types, about 6" x 4" and takes good pictures, easy on "AA" type batts. Can take both pictures and videos, day and night and labels pictures with date/time/etc. Previous poster mentuioned this cam had invisible IR flash but it is visible to human eye but does not seem obvious as a projector type light (just glows red). I paid $144.99 (including taxes) in Sep 2011 at SAIL store in Ottawa, Ont.

JUST A QUESTION: Would a camera mounted high take a good enough picture for ID purposes? Seems like many thieves caught on camera are fond of ball caps and hoodies.

Hope this helps.

I 'll give them a look see . I think I could set one up across walking entry points to house instead of across the road drive avoiding false alarms due to normal right of way travel .

Good point for sure . I 'll think on it . I 'll take a look at the M 80 although I hear it has a slow recycle time .
