What a GEM !! I zoomed up all the pics and looked close. This tractor has been stored in a flannel mitten all these years - little or no UV damage, careful operator(s), stored inside, easy hours in a good environment - how nice that it's going to be in new hands that appreciate the fact that it is among Kubota's very best products ever, and that this one is a pristine example. Congratulations.
Couple ideas from my
L4150 years: The hydraulic shuttle has an adjustment for regulating how abruptly it shifts. There's a 3-position orifice valve inside the cowl under the dash panel. It was intended to be adjusted by dealers for the local climate so that shifts were neither too slow or too fast. There is posted info on adjustment
here.
You may notice a snapping sound when driving along in 7th or 8th and if you look close the loader hoses jump with each snap sound. This was determined to be oil cavitation as the transmission gear teeth scooped air bubbles toward the oil pickup. The fix was to increase the transmission oil level - they supplied a shorter dipstick and an a longer internal pickup pipe to pull in oil at a spot further away from the bubble source. The unfortunate feature was it required splitting the tractor to install the pipe - so I'll bet very few were actually put in except under warrantee and then only if the owner raised a stink. A quicker fix is to add an extra gallon of fluid and file a new higher full indicator on your dipstick.
My
L4150 was a great tractor - I wanted a backhoe and a
L5450 with BH presented itself. Only after a year of making sure the
L5450 was indeed the same fabulous tractor, I sold the
L4150. Otherwise I'd never have parted with it.
Good search, good find, good acquisition. It's not just a good tractor for you, it would be a great tractor for anyone. Take care, Dick B
P.S. I have a couple new rear red lenses on my shelf - pm your mailing address and I'll send you a "happy new L3" present.
