Yanmar YM 2000
Good evening TBN community,

I wanted to start out by saying thank you to each member that posts useful information on this forum. I have read a lot of posts regarding various models of gray market Yanmar tractors which have been very helpful. Recently, I purchased a YM 2000 from a dealer near Atlanta GA for $2500. I have used the tractor very little and now have noticed the water pump leaking from the "weep hole" in the water pump housing. Well this bothered me so I began tearing it apart and removing radiator, hood, most cooling components, etc. Wound up ordering a new housing a gaskets from Hoye and they should be here Thursday. During my "tearing" I noticed the presence of water in my trans-hydraulic fluid. That then got a flush and change. I plan to change engine oil, engine oil filter, and fuel filter whenever the parts get here.

My question to you all is: What else should I look into before putting this baby through her paces?

BTW it doesn't have and new paint or decals and was a trade in at Cobb County Tractor Co. The tires appear to be well worn on the front and are slightly dry rotted. I have drained the transhydraulic fluid and removed the screen and replaced the fluid and screen. Also, during this process I have repainted the side and front grilles along with hood and head light housing. The air filter looked new but a new one is ordered too. Let me know what y'all think.

Thank you from one of the newest members,

Drew

Welcome to the world of tractors and the Yanmar forum
I am curious about the mentioning of purchasing this from a dealership and it not already been gone through and having been serviced or at least the fluids changed etc, etc, I suppose not all dealerships do a thural service on them before they go out to sale, but one would think with the obvious of water in the trans would had at least changed the hydraulic fluid & engine oil  and apparently it had no warranty if you had to foot the cost of the water pump replacement,
all this said though it was still a decent price for a gray ym2000,
Many knowledgeable folks here sure to help with any issue you may have or run into in the future;)

Just like in the Navy, if it moves oil/grease it, if not paint it.

Thanks for all the input guys. Just waiting on parts; they should be here this coming Thursday. During the fluid change I noticed water in the hydraulic trans oil. I have heard that this can come from rainwater leaking down the gear shifter? Is this true? Where else does it come from?

Also, I would like to purchase a box blade and am torn between a 4' or 5.' I am planning on buying a United HD blade. I plan on spreading ground up asphalt around my shop and leveling holes. Please continue to give me your opinions; I appreciate all input. I'm pretty convinced I can only run a 4' rotary mower.:(

Thanks again guys

I had a YM2000. If I were you, i'd go with a 4' box blade. (only because of traction)

I bought the 5 ft Howse BB. Based on my limited experience it is just right for the sort of spreading and light levelling you described. If I were going to pioneer a road with heavy digging in hard soil, then I think this size tractor would be more productive with a 4 ft BB due to limited weight/traction.

I agree with California. I have 3/4 mile gravel Dr. that I use my BB for mostly. It's 4ft. and works great for all my needs.
With my Rear Wheels spun for the widest stance the BB is the same width which makes it easy to get close to things without catching it. ;)
