Hello group,

I've read quite a few times on these boards that one of the most important parts of buying a tractor is the dealer you buy from. How often can I expect to have to go to my dealer other than just purchase day? The reason that I ask is that the best deal I've found so far is about 60 miles away from where I live. The deal at the Kubota dealer that's five miles down the road isn't really that much different, so if it will cost me more in the long run for times that I have to take my tractor back to the dealer I purchased from, I'll have to consider that.

Thank you

It comes down to service. As we have beaten to death before. A few dealers are members who actively participate here will tell you.

What does the shops look like? Is one more modern, have they been in business long, how's the service, what do they offer you for hours, will they pick up your machine for free if it fails ect.....I think you get the point. The cost being a wash you need to ask yourself what other intangibles come into play.

Most will give you a little off on accessory's and/or implements, thereby saving you even more money. Some will order parts rpiority and not charge or go out of their way to answer stupid questions (don't ask me how I know).

Price is important but service is worth a few more dollars.

I understand the value of service and all that, and believe me, with how frustrating dealing with the apathetic businesses that exist today, I'd go 500 miles out of my way to deal with someone who gives a **** about his job. I guess what I'm really wondering is how often a tractor itself actually has to go back to the dealer. Like, every 50 hours? Just one time for the 50 hour service? If it's only when/if stuff breaks and is covered under warranty, then I'll deal with the extra distance. But, if you have to take your tractor to the dealer from which you purchased the tractor every three months for warranty purposes or some sort of nonsense like that, I'd factor in that cost.

Thanks

I had a detent stick in my FEL at 10 hrs. Other than that it's never been back to the dealer for anything. It's like any other toy you have in that it takes some upkeep and it will serve you well for a long time. Don't get hung up over your concerns that much.

Ray,

I guess I wasn't real clear on how I worded my response. What I was trying to say is that some people will never go back to the dealer for anything including basic maintenance unless they have a major warrantee issue. Others will bring it in every time they hear a tick.

Some will use the dealer for everything from service to ordering parts, accessory's and implements so the proximity is important.

If it is just for service it will not be that often depending on how quickly you put hours on. It takes some folks a year to run up 50 hours, others can do it in a week. So it is really going to depend on your needs.

Hope that clarifies it a bit.

Nice. Considering that I built the engine in my car (thanks to help from a brother and a much more knowledgeable father), I think I'll be alright with the 50 hour service. Thank you Larry Brown of NY. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
