PT-1850 Cold Blooded Deutz

I posted about them here someplace but here is my web site link: USA Discount Generators - Standby and Portable Gillette Generators

For the last couple of years, you can find them on Ebay for $25 each. They help more than the magnetic heaters did but it is much nicer to have the tractor in some moderately heated space.

What would work much better than magnetic heaters would be to do my filter cart mod and install an inline heater so you can pump heated oil through the tank.

It amazes me that they start at all since it is a full load start (cold oil, etc).

Yeah, it's like trying to suck a frozen milkshake through a straw!

My 1430 is good about starting but when cold [10 and below] I am able to use an infrared heater pointed at the engine. That works for me.

Yummm, milkshake. :licking:

I've noticed my PT starts better when i replaced the engine.

I've noticed that when I'm in a bad mood, a milkshake makes me feel better.

--17 is the coldest I've ever tried to start my 1430. It took 20-30 seconds to start firing and then ran on one cylinder for a few more seconds. It had to run for several minutes before it would move. I really didn't want to go out so I was hoping it wouldn't start.

Starting between 0 and 20 normally only takes within a few seconds. The only precaution I use is an anti-gel fuel additive. I would like to try to a heater on the hydraulic oil. It moves very sluggishly for several minutes when it's very cold.

I leave my PT425 running about 1/3 throttle while I hand shovel the front steps and small sidewalk. That takes about 10 minutes. By then, the unit is warm enough to move. I raise and lower the FEL and dump/curl the plow a few times, give the plow a wiggle side-to-side and I'm good to go.
