PT-422 Hydraulics not working

Dear Frank,

It is annoying when you get someone who doesn't take ownership.

So, based on your post, my bet is that if both wires are black, you have a standard Sterling CAP012L coil and that would cross reference to a- "may I have the envelope please-
CAP012L Parker coil. I would double check that the internal diameter is 5/8".

You can look further in the Parker catalog here. I think that page 7 discusses these valves. It also gives dimensions that you can double check. On the off chance you don't have a digital caliper, Harbor Freight sells some cheap ones that are quite handy. On sale, they are less than $10.

I hope that this helps. I don't actually have same valves on my machine, so I'm flying blind here.

All the best,

Peter

Thanks for the info Peter. I went earlier this morning to a Parker Hydraulics store in Delaware. I brought the solenoid with me. The employee couldn't help me at all. Told me I needed to goto a Sterling Truck dealership. I told him Parker bought Sterling Hydraulics and there has to be a way to cross reference. He just gave up.

I know one wire is black. My guess is the other wire is black too, because I don't see any loose red wires anywhere in the tub. The solenoid you found at Surplus Center, how can I find out if that will work with valve I have?

Thanks

Frank

Hi Peter,

Thanks for all the information. I have one coming from Grainger should be here Wednesday. $25 from Grainger. Power Trac wanted $120.

Now I have to decipher all the hanging wires and loose wires inside the tub to figure out where it goes. The last owner/owners of this machine really didn't take care of it at all. At some point I want to pull everything and re-do it all, but for now I want to get the PTO to work.

Having trouble finding where the second lead off the PTO solenoid goes to. I have one to the ground but can't find the wire that goes to the PTO switch?

Still having trouble getting my PTO to work.
I replaced the Sterling Hydraulics solenoid with an identical one from Parker. (thanks Peter)
I found the wire from the PTO switch at controls to harness by the motor. (thanks JJ )
Took my power unit/auger to a local hydraulics shop. Had them test it and put new hoses and fittings on it. Bench tested okay.

I put the auger on the pt 422 and hooked up. Started pt 422. Flipped switch on PTO - nothing.
Can the PTO on/off switch be bad?
There are other wires hooked up to the switch. No sure what they all do or go to.

I have a white wire by the engine that isn't hooked up to anything. Don't know what it goes to or where it goes.

I have the one wire off the solenoid grounded to the tub. The other wire is connected to the orange wire from the wire harness that runs to the PTO switch on/off.

Don't know what else to check.

Sure the switch can be bad. I had a spade terminal come off the switch. I just plugged it in.

Check voltage on both sides of the switch. Does one of the voltages switch on an off with the switch turning on and off? Is there continuity between the wire at the solenoid and the wire on the switch?

There are on my pt kill switches between the pto and the master switch. First. I would ground the solenoid, then hook a wire directly to the battery while the engine is running. By hooking I mean touching it to the battery. And make sure you have a good clean ground that is direct to metal. This will tell you that your hydraulics are not the issue. From there you start at the beginning, make sue electricitye is getting to you switch, then follow the wire from e switch to the solenoid using a volt meter.

I feel this is something you should do with all you circuits as it sounds like the wiring is a bit of a mess

Frank, what part of the country are you in?

You might be able to find a wiring harness diagram. Did you ask tazwell?

I finally have the PTO working!!!!!!!!
After hours of trial and error, multimeter and test light, and help from you all - I have it working.

The PTO on/off switch was wired incorrectly

Thanks again for all of your input. I would be lost with out this forum.

I live in the southern part of New Jersey, 10 minutes from Delaware.
