I think FOURTEEN's 425 is one with the newer wheel motors, yet he still has the Kohler engine, unless I'm mistaken...

Quality built in 2/2002 with Kohler Command Pro, steel gas tank, high mount battery, and the new style wheel motors.

Mechanically speaking, more stress does add up to shorter wheel life, along with any bearing or seals.

Maybe!! Do you know of any cases of PT wheel motor failure? Any caused by reversed wheels?

Do you tell the wife and kids to walk because their extra weight will reduce your gas mileage and wear out your car faster?? I doubt it!! You realize that some things are more important than others!!

The question is how much of a shorter life are you willing to settle for? 800 hours instead of 1,000 who really knows?

Exactly!! Maybe its only 8,000 instead of 10,000! Or, maybe its only 80,000 instead of 100,000!! Or, maybe those PT motors will have no problems at all, reversed or not, for as long as you own it!! Who really knows!! Well, I know that for 275 hours of rugged use, I have had NO problems!!

Re: PT-425 PROS & cons??

( O.K. I'll shout it out...

I CAN FIT MY PT425 WITH A 4' BRUSH HOG ATTACHED INTO THE REAR OF A STANDARD 3/4 TON 8' PICKUP TRUCK!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No thanks! My tilt bed trailer with a its 6' X 12' bed will carry just about anything, including my PT-425 and its attachments, or three ATVs, or my Power King tractor, or 3,000# of mulch, or a refrigerator, or several rolls of carpet, etc, without any ramps! The boat winch and steel frame make for easy tie downs. Bought new a few years ago for $700! No insurance and only $15 a year for a license plate!

The best part is that when its not being used, the trailer just sits out behind the Morton! Meanwhile, I'm enjoying driving a nice car, SUV, or, in my case, a Hemi Magnum around rather than an old gas guzzling truck!!

PS: That's not me on the PT! I have shorter hair and nicer legs!!

Well first it’s nice to see you posting again. More important, feeling better and doing well.

This looks a little suspect, but he does have a lot of hard hours on the machine.

No, but my Navigator is in stock form, not to much I could do about that anyway.

Here’s hoping that you never do. In certain situations like Kent, and others describe. I would most definitely do the same. Safety is a very important issue. In my case with the smaller wheel motors, the added stability would be nice, but not really necessary. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Re: PT-425 PROS & cons??

Good to see you here again Fourteen...certainly makes things a little more colorful around here /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

O course, MR's "shout out" wasn't implying the bed of a truck is the best way to haul around the PT...merely that it can be done, and it's a nice alternative for those of us that don't have the extra $$ to invest in a trailer(obviously a trailer is the way to go!).

I would reverse my wheels for the stability since I have many hills here, but I don't due to the 48" finish mower deck....just doesn't seem right that I would run over some grass with the tractor tires before I cut the grass itself.

Re: PT-425 PROS & cons??

That was not an insult. It would be hard to insult someone that has a logical opinion about everything.

My 1445 came from the factory with one wheel position, the correct one, and can not be reversed.

Worrywart, That is sissy talk. I don't worry about things that might break, I simply deal with it.

I checked on the warranty, and if you want to reverse the wheels, wait till the warranty ends. If you are going to reverse, just don't tell anybody.

Scuba gear, [ dumb statement. ]

I even like Kohler engines, and Kohler does allow synthetic oil., but sometimes my stuff breaks. How about yours.
