Nice write up Jim.

Joel,
Here's my 2 cent's... I'm hearing these main points.
( ... 90% of the tractor will be used for mowing. )
( ... I want to mow fast ...)
( I also need something to clear snow from a 600 ft paved drive.)
( ... some limited bush hogging... primarily of tall thick grass and thistles. )
( ... some loader use for moving mulch, some dirt, brush and stone... )
( I'm concerned that the PT is not a very capable mower. )

I don't know what your storage situation is but I think you best option may be two machines. Get the best ZTR you can find and you may even be happy with a PT422 for the rest of your work. That would be even more cost savings!

I have the smallest in the PT line up the PT180 and use the single blade mower to mow about an acre of field periodically that the neighbor used to brush hog with a conventional tractor and it does great. I don't mow most of it in float since the field is a bit rough but since it is just grass and thistle I fly through it! The neighbor has commented that it takes me a lot less time than him mainly I think due to speed and maneuverability. Mind you my fields are flat so I am sure my 180 would choke in a heartbeat mowing the hills some others on here have to.

If you have the space and you supplement a PT with a nice ZTR you'd probably be very happy with either a 422 or 425!

Here's a pic of me mowing down a tall grassed area with it in float. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

(I'll mow 4-5 acres reguarly, i.e. 2 times each week and I want to mow fast )

Get a small Power Trac for your landscaping and snow!

Get a Dixie Chopper Xtreme Mowchine for your FAST mowing!!
With 32hp and a top speed of 15mph the XT3200-72 will cut at the rate of 8.73 acres per hour !! So you can cut your lawn in about half an hour!!

PS: Tie up the dog and kids!!

Now that's a Tim the Tool Man special if I've ever seen one.

The only thing missing is your animated .gif mower at the bottom of your message. Great for emphasis, like FOURTEEN really needs help with emphasis. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good reference site. Did you check out the SGS Hybrid-Z38 from Self Guided Systems?

Clint,
Sure did... that sounds like one advanced mower! I wonder how well their pricing model will work though? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
