When using the PT with a tiller does not the front mounted tiller cause a problem in that one is always driving over the just tilled soil, compacting it and leaving ruts?

It also seems it would prevent use of integral panels that would automatically form a raised seed bed as one progresses, as do big conventional farm tractors. Do most PT users simply use the tiller as a rotary plow to break the soil and turn under vegetation and not for preparing a seed bed?

I use my power-trac and rototiller to prepare seed beds on our tree farm, I rototill going back wards < pulling instead of pushing> Witch gives a nice finish. Jim

Welcome to the form - when did you buy your PoweerTrac? and what type did you get? and where are you located (state)?
Your correct about the tiller, I almost always go backward for best results.

The recommended method by power trac is in reverse with the tiller attachment in float position and using the tilt control for depth. Welcome.

I don't have one yet. We move to southern Missouri (Thayer) at the end of March. I need to make up my mind soon so I can have one get there about the same time as I arrive.

The trip to Tazewell is not practical for me, at least not now. I presently live in California and I can not justify the time and expense.

As ernemats noted, PT recommends backing with the tiller. On my 1845, I drive forward first pass and then back down the same path. It leaves near powder with a smooth surface.
(I know, I know, modern theory is that plants do better if you don't over till. But, I have nothing to do with plants - just tilling. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Would reverse also be the recommended method for using the trencher? I rented one once and called the rental office because it wasn't trenching.. they laughed at me when they heard I was trying to trench going forward.. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yes, this is a reverse tool. I have used mine going forward but only to clear out the trench.

I have two trenchers, not including the PT trencher. One of them does trench going forward, it has a speed reducing gear box on a Robin engine. It all depends on which way the teeth are turning.
