Mowing Pt425 Brush Cutter starts a loud bang

I have a York 210 air conditioning compressor out of an 87 Ford Bronco that I am converting into an air compressor. There are many, many write ups about it on 4X4 and low rider boards on the net. Very high output and self lubricating. Simple, simple project. The hardest part is making the mounting brackets. Anyway, that's the subject for another thread.

MR- go for it! It is a great solution. My #2 would be a generator and 110V compressor. Anything else is going to be problematic in my opinion.

All the best,

Peter

I carry a Dewalt 18v battery powered impact wrench in my truck at all times. I use it to change brush hog blades on the PT and blades on the commercial Xmark mower. I have also driven many lag bolts with it. It has plenty of torque but it is kind of pricey.

I have priced those as well. I don't use battery operated equipment often enough to justify buying new batteries every few years. I have several pieces of battery operated equipment that are now dead because of battery obsolescence VS several AC power tools that were purchased in the 60s by my father! That's why I'm going the air tool route.

However, if you own a business where frequent repairs are needed and downtime costs you money, then the battery operated tools are definitely the way to go.

Battery tools are definately more expensive to operate than AC tools. They are a lot more convenient. On the Dewalt 1/2 inch impact wrench. It works, but I have had two applications where you must be careful.
1. I could not break the lug nuts loose on my truck. It turns out the battery was low on charge and it did not really sound different. Not a big deal but you need to know.

2. I used it to tighten the top of shock bolt on my van. I kept getting noise. I took the shock in and out three times and finally took it to the dealer (something I rarely do). The bolt was loose. The Dewalt did not have the umph to tighten the nut. The air impact wrench did. Of course now I check by hand after either impact wrench.

Getting the socket off requires a nail of other pin to push into the hole in the socket side. This is a nusiance, but workable.

Not big deals, but nice not to haves.

Yes, you do have to make sure you have a charged battery. I carry an extra charged one with me. I use the tool so often, I can usually tell when the battery is getting week. there are some cases where you need a big air impact but the Dewalt works for about 99% of what I need it for. I have a compressor and air tools in the barn and they are handy also when I'm close by them.

I ruined my blades on the brush cutter after about 8 hours of service, once the blades start to wedge on the second set of bolt heads it becomes a constant headache and if you are unlucky the bolt that holds the blade will bend or worse case shear off (been there ) I use the disk conversion kit on mine with swing away style blades, 12+ hours and so far I am pleased, the smaller blades are inexpensive in comparison to the brush hog blades (special order in my area)

Have you noticed a difference in cutting ability with the disk/swing blade setup? For example, can 1" samplings still be cut. Can you cut the same brush thickness as it did before?

yes, not a problem only nicks/damage to the blades were from hitting a hidden patio block while clearing a 3 acre lot covered with saplings and muliforal rose, but I did lose 2'' of cutting width due to blade configuration
