Re: PT425 ROPS Spares Fool\'s Life

"it would be easier to get that than to start from scratch!! With those holes already in the sides of the PT-180, it may be just a bolt-on!!??"

You are correct sir! I called Power Trac and Scott told me the ROPS would fit perfectly. I don't understand why they don't provide the option or at least let people know it is available.

I will probably let a metal fabricator shop look at the tractor and see what kind of price they will give me before I order a ROPS though.

Re: PT425 ROPS Spares Fool\'s Life

Whew! I'm glad to hear that your neighbor and your machine are all OK following the Newton experiment on your slope. As a newbie getting ready to take delivery of a 425 next month, it would be helpful to me to know where the center of gravity is on these machines to better understand how your neighbor's instinctive move to get away from the edge of the road unfavorably altered the position of the CG. I understand that operator size and weight, and a myriad of other factors (implement, load, load height, etc.) should have some influence on CG, but for an unladen operatorless 425, where is the CG?
Thanks, and again, glad all is well.

You have already learned one of the eccentricities of Power Trac!! They are 90% manufacturers, and only 10% marketers!! Whereas with John Deere the inverse is true!!

PS: This time of year the ROPS is well worthwhile, even if only for the shade provided by the canopy!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: PT425 ROPS Spares Fool\'s Life

I had the same thing happen to me, er........, my neighbor 5 years ago on a 1425. Scary stuff!! The great thing is that you can push the tractor right back onto the wheels, add some oil, and off you go. I had absolutely no damage to man or machine! That is a big reason why my company runs Power Trac equipment!

where is the CG

I truly do not know where the CG is on the PT425 when it is facing forward and nobody one it, etc... The CG definately moves around fore and aft and sided to side as you turn it and or load it up with implements, operators and such. All machines CG changes when you do this. However, with the articulation you can change it dramatically by turning the steering wheel. It is something all potential PT operators need to know about and learn about. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Scott said the ROPS for the pt180 runs $500 and I believe it weighs around 100LB

Re: PT425 ROPS Spares Fool\'s Life

I think my ROPS with canopy on our PT425 weighs under 100 because I'm a whimp and can lift it pretty easily. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif It goes on with four bolts. Set it in front of the unit and put in two bolts, then tip it up in place. Have someone hold it there while you put in a third bolt. You can do the last bolt alone.

Here's a link to a post about removing and installing it. The first post has a picture attached that shows how to set it up. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
