Mowing PTO and brush hog operation.

How do you turn on the PTO? By flicking a switch or pressing a clutch pedal?

According to Tractordata, that tractor was made by TYM and I believe you engage the PTO using a switch.

That means you have a clutch pack inside the transmission for the PTO, instead of a dry clutch inside of the bellhousing.

It can be a couple of problems. Either the spool on the PTO valve is not travelling the full stroke or for some reason the pressure on the clutch pack is not right and it's slipping.

Was it a sudden or gradual issue?

There is a button on the dash you push that engages the PTO.

I have only had the tractor sense early May, initially is seemed to be ok but I really didn't do any heavy work with the brush hog, now that summer is over I need to knock down areas that didn't get bailed which has some fairly heavy weeds. One thing I didn't check are the fluids, if low could that be causing the issue.

Check the fluid level. But if it was low enough to affect the PTO, it was also low enough to affect the loader, steering, 3pt and remotes.

The loader and 3 point seem to be fine, I wouldn't be lucky enough for it to be that simple but I will check it out anyway.

Could also need a fluid change. There might be a suction screen and/or a regular filter that need changed.

Fluids are my next step, thank you for your reply and advice. I need all the help I can get.

I have no idea how your Mahindra hydraulics are set up.
Many tractors use two pumps they may be sandwiched together and use just one drive,
but some will use a single pump with a priority valve.
Either the priority valve or the small section of the pump will go to the power steering and any hydraulic controls such as the pto or as a charge pump for a hydrostatic.
There should be a location to check the pressure going to the pto clutch pack.
The first things to check would be the solenoid for functioning and the pressure of the fluid going to the pto clutch.
I would do that before any fluid or filter changes as they may be needed after any repairs, be a shame to have to do them twice in a short time.

Great information. I will figure out how to check that pressure and will check the solenoid to make sure it is getting power to energize. I have now checked the fluids and they are fine as I suspected. With only 300 hours on the tractor I wouldn't think the clutch has gone bad but possible. I have had other issues with the HST portion, electrical connectors (can read from previous post) so I am hoping the same for this issue. If there is a priority valve that would mostly likely be inside the casing so hosed to check that.
